  • Full-time Mountain View Health and Rehabilitation is seeking an experienced and motivated Director of Staff Development to lead education, training, and competency development for our clinical team.
This role is critical to ensuring regulatory compliance, clinical excellence, and a strong culture of continuous learning. The Director of Staff Development partners closely with nursing leadership and the interdisciplinary team to ensure staff are prepared, confident, and competent in delivering high-quality resident-centered care. Position Summary The Director of Staff Development is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing education, training, orientation, and competency programs for all nursing and clinical staff. This position ensures compliance with state and federal training requirements, supports survey readiness, and promotes ongoing professional development. The Director of Staff Development serves as a clinical educator, mentor, and resource for staff across all shifts. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Education & Training Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive staff development and education program in accordance with CMS and Montana DPHHS requirements. Coordinate and conduct new hire orientation for nursing and clinical staff.
Provide ongoing education related to:
Infection prevention and control Abuse, neglect, and misappropriation prevention Dementia care and behavior management Emergency preparedness and disaster response Resident rights and quality of care Ensure annual and as-needed mandatory in-service training is completed and documented. Competency & Skills Validation Conduct and document initial, annual, and ongoing competency evaluations for licensed and unlicensed nursing staff. Validate clinical skills, including medication administration, treatments, infection control practices, and emergency procedures. Identify training gaps and implement corrective education plans. Regulatory Compliance & Survey Readiness Maintain accurate and up-to-date education and competency records for all applicable staff. Support survey readiness , plan of correction education, and follow-up training related to deficiencies. Ensure compliance with CMS regulations (42 CFR Part 483) and Montana state requirements. Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives related to staff performance and outcomes. Leadership & Collaboration Collaborate with the Director of Nursing, Administrator, and department leaders to support clinical excellence. Serve as a resource and mentor to staff, promoting professional growth and accountability. Assist with onboarding, retention strategies, and development of a positive workplace culture. Quality Improvement & Performance Support Participate in QAPI activities by analyzing trends related to staff training, errors, or incidents. Assist with development and implementation of corrective actions related to training and competency. Provide coaching and re-education when performance concerns are identified. Qualifications Required Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in the State of Montana. Experience in skilled nursing or long-term care . Strong knowledge of nursing regulations, clinical standards, and survey processes. Ability to teach, coach, and evaluate clinical staff. Preferred Previous experience in staff development, education, or nurse leadership . Familiarity with electronic health records and learning management systems. Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Skills & Abilities Strong presentation and facilitation skills. Ability to engage staff across all shifts. Detail-oriented with excellent documentation skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Combination of classroom, office, and clinical floor environment. Ability to stand, walk, and demonstrate clinical skills as needed. Occasional evening or weekend hours to support off-shift education. What Success Looks Like in This Role Staff training and competency records are survey-ready at all times. Staff demonstrate confidence and competence in clinical skills. Reduced training-related deficiencies and improved quality outcomes. Strong staff engagement and retention through effective education and support.
