KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perioperative & Surgical Patient Care Assist in surgical as well as non-invasive procedures in the OR and in the office (e.g. Morpheus8/PRP). Assist physician with examinations and clinic as needed. Provide perioperative nursing care to surgical patients from scheduling through post-operative follow-up Perform and document accurate pre-operative nursing assessments, including review of medical history, allergies, sensitivities, and surgical readiness. Verify that requested lab testing, medical clearance, and COVID results are complete, up-to-date and satisfactory prior to surgery. - and post-operative care; respond to clinical questions via phone, email, or in person.
Deliver nursing care during recovery, following physician orders and facility protocols. Use and location of medications, supplies and equipment used in the operating room, recovery room, and instrument processing areas is required. Follow physician orders and facility protocol for vital signs, physical assessment and discharge. Operating Room Support & Sterile Technique Assist with operating room setup/breakdown, intraoperative support, and breakdown to ensure efficient workflow, patient safety, and procedural readiness. Assist with coordinating the surgery scheduling process, confirming readiness for upcoming surgical days by noon the prior business day. Be familiar with the use of sterilization equipment, operating room equipment, (lights, cautery unit, laser, suction, crash cart, defibrillator, washer/dryer etc.) Be familiar with all forms and documents used in the operating room, recovery rooms, and patient charts. Perform accurate instrument, sponge, and needle counts. Assist with operating room turnover in accordance with established time and safety standards (turn over an operating room in under 30 minutes to start the next case) Assist with transport, processing, and sterilization of instruments/trays according to facility policy. Update preference cards, records changes as needed. Infection Control, Safety, & Compliance Maintain strict aseptic technique and adhere to AAAASF, OSHA, and facility infection-control and traffic control policies and regulations in all clinical areas. Ensures clean, safe environment through continued alertness to safety and explosive hazards. Handle and dispose of biomedical waste in accordance with facility policies. Maintain and complete sterilization logs and quality control documentation in accordance with established policies and procedures, as assigned. Ensure emergency equipment and medications are present and current, and report deficiencies to the Surgery Center Director promptly. Maintain familiarity with facility layout, emergency procedures, and safety protocols and perform competently in high-acuity and emergency situations within assigned scope. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Supplies, Inventory, & Equipment Support the Surgery Center Director by monitoring inventory levels and reporting supply needs, discrepancies, or concerns (includes monitoring inventory levels of surgical supplies, implants, garments, medications, and equipment). Prepare and restock work areas and notify Surgery Center Director or appropriate person of supply needs or discrepancies. Rotate stock and report expired, missing, or damaged items. Assist with ordering and receipt verification of implants and garments as directed (implants to be ordered/checked in one week prior to scheduled procedure.) Assist with medication inventory and perform correct controlled drug counts and report discrepancies immediately. Assist with routine equipment checks and report malfunctions to the Surgery Center Director. Documentation, Communication, & Care Coordination Complete and maintain accurate patient documentation, medical records, and ensure information and physician orders are verified. Educate patients and caregivers on procedures, pre
- and post-operative care, and recovery expectations within nursing scope.
Coordinate patient flow between pre-op, OR, and recovery areas. Maintain familiarity with required forms and documentation used in surgical and recovery settings. Assist with maintenance of records and statistics within the facility and with relevant member organizations such as ASPS and ASAPS. Teamwork, Professionalism, & Accountability Work collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing staff, and administrative team members, maintaining professional, respectful relationships with all. Assumes accountability and responsibility for their own work performance and assigned duties. Maintain working knowledge of facility layout, clinical departments, equipment locations, and the roles and responsibilities of surgeons, anesthesia providers, and perioperative staff. Promotes positive customer relations for the surgery center. Accept feedback constructively and demonstrate adaptability and competence in dynamic or emergent situations. Adhere to assigned working schedules, dress code, and professional conduct standards. Support the mission, values, and patient-centered philosophy of CARE Plastic Surgery. Strives to make the mission statement of CARE Plastic Surgery part of the daily work activity. Performs duties in a professional and pleasant manner. Perform additional and administrative duties as assigned to support safe and efficient surgical operations.
Skills/Qualifications:
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina ( required ) Current BLS (required) Operating room experience (preferred) ACLS certification (preferred) CNOR (preferred) Pre-op/PACU experience (preferred)
