Job Description
The Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Registered Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to patients participating in phase II and phase III cardiac rehabilitation programs. The RN collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized treatment plans designed to promote cardiovascular recovery, improve functional capacity, and reduce risk factors associated with cardiac disease. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Performs comprehensive nursing assessments, including cardiovascular and pulmonary evaluation, patient history review, and risk stratification. Monitors patient response to exercise therapy through telemetry, vital signs, and symptom assessment, always ensuring patient safety. Recognizes and responds appropriately to cardiac arrhythmias, hemodynamic instability, and medical emergencies in accordance with hospital protocols. Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized care plans and rehabilitation goals in collaboration with the healthcare team. Provides patient and family education regarding cardiovascular disease management, medications, diet, exercise, smoking cessation, stress reduction, and lifestyle modification. Documents patient care, treatment progress, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely within the electronic medical record. Collaborates with providers, advanced practice providers, exercise physiologists, dietitians, and case management staff to ensure continuity of care. Participates in quality improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance activities, and departmental performance improvement projects. Maintains competency in cardiac monitoring, emergency response procedures, and rehabilitation best practices. Provide education to staff for required competencies. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the applicable state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required. Minimum of one (1) year of clinical nursing experience in cardiac care, telemetry, critical care, emergency services, or rehabilitation preferred. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Strong clinical assessment, critical-thinking, and communication skills required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of cardiovascular and pulmonary disease processes, cardiac and pulmonary medications, telemetry interpretation, and exercise physiology. Ability to assess patient tolerance to physical activity and respond effectively to changes in condition. Demonstrated ability to educate and motivate patients toward long-term lifestyle modification and disease management. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment. Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation systems. Working Conditions Clinical outpatient or hospital-based cardiopulmonary rehabilitation environment. Frequent standing, walking, and patient interaction. May require occasional lifting and emergency response participation.
