Description:
The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) is responsible for providing safe, efficient, and patient-centered perioperative nursing care in a fast-paced ambulatory surgery center specializing in orthopaedic procedures. This role involves circulating in the operating room, collaborating with surgeons and surgical team members, and ensuring adherence to clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and infection control protocols. The OR RN plays a critical role in delivering high-quality surgical care while supporting optimal patient outcomes and an exceptional patient experience.
Requirements:
Clinical Care & Patient Safety Perform comprehensive preoperative assessments and verify patient readiness for surgery. Serve as the circulating nurse during surgical procedures, ensuring a sterile and safe environment. Implement and maintain aseptic technique and infection prevention practices. Monitor patient status throughout procedures and respond appropriately to changes in condition. Conduct surgical time-outs and ensure compliance with patient safety protocols. Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping according to procedure requirements. Coordinate patient transfer to PACU with complete and accurate handoff communication. Surgical Coordination Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and other team members to ensure efficient case flow. Prepare and maintain operating rooms, ensuring proper equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and functioning. Anticipate surgical team needs during procedures. Support turnover processes to maintain on-time surgical schedules. Documentation & Compliance Accurately document all aspects of perioperative care in the electronic medical record. Ensure compliance with AAAHC standards, OSHA regulations, and facility policies. Maintain knowledge of and adherence to infection control, safety, and emergency protocols. Patient Experience Provide compassionate care and clear communication to patients and families. Educate patients on preoperative and postoperative expectations as needed. Promote a culture of service excellence and patient satisfaction. Team & Professional Development Participate in staff meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing education. Support orientation and training of new staff as needed. Maintain required certifications and clinical competencies. Qualifications Education & Licensure Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of North Carolina Current BLS certification (required) ACLS certification (preferred or required within a specified timeframe) Experience Minimum of 1-2 years of operating room experience required Orthopaedic surgical experience strongly preferred Experience in an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) setting preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing practices and surgical procedures Ability to prioritize tasks and function effectively in a fast-paced environment Excellent communication and teamwork skills Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety Ability to adapt to changing schedules and case volumes Work Environment & Physical Requirements Prolonged standing and walking during surgical procedures Ability to lift and position patients (with assistance) Exposure to surgical equipment, bodily fluids, and sterile environments Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations Why Join Southern Pines Orthopaedic Surgery Center (SPOSC)?
