GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for meeting patient's priority needs by assessing, participating in interdisciplinary care planning, providing and /or delegating care based on patient needs and evaluating patients' responses. Contributes to an efficient and effective work environment through activities including professional communication and documentation, preceptoring and/or resourcing of others. Supervises support staff in the delivery of patient care as described in Nebraska Statute.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1.

  • Initiates assessment and reassessment based on the patient's presenting problems/needs in accordance with Grand Island Regional Medical Center's procedures. 3.
  • Synthesizes pertinent initial and ongoing patient data to identify nursing priorities for care and desired outcomes/goals. 4.
  • Integrates the patient's plan of care based on the diagnosis and age-specific needs. 5.
  • Executes therapeutic and/or supportive interventions, consistent with perioperative procedures as ordered. 6.
  • Provides education for the patient and family to meet identified patient needs. 7.
  • Evaluates the patient's response to and effectiveness of interventions. 8.
  • Evaluates patient's progress toward established outcomes. 9.
  • Incorporates cultural considerations into the plan/delivery of care. 10.
  • Documents patient care and related information according to Grand Island Regional Medical Center procedures for documentation. 11.
  • Coordinates and provides care in conjunction with other members of the interdisciplinary team. 12.
  • Facilitates patient's transition to the next level of care.
13. Assumes responsibility in a shared or delegated assignment and supports team member's practices through timely communication. 14. Serves as a role model to colleagues, students and other care providers. 15. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. 16. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned. 17. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient's growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies. 2. Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to nursing applications and relative practice area. 3. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions. 4. Ability to delegate, provide instruction and evaluate the work of LPN's and unlicensed professional. 5. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 6. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes. 7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff. 8. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment relevant to changing patient needs, including work with patients with acute, chronic, and complex disease processes, and those who are dying. 9. Ability to practice proper body mechanics to ensure personal and customer/patient safety. 10. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills. 11. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information. 12. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision. 13. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within first 6 months of employment. PALS as per manager's descretion. Additional credentials and certifications required for practice area.
