JOB OVERVIEW
Serves as the administrator of the licensed nursing facility.
Responsible for the organization, leadership, direction and provision of all programs within the nursing facility, including quality and financial outcomes.
In collaboration with the Vice President Patient Care & CNO, oversees clinical practice and creates an environment to support interdisciplinary clinical care.
Oversees and provides direction for nursing facility MDS nurses, case managers, and recreation.
Supports and facilitates effective staff and family collaboration and communication to achieve defined goals for residents.
Ensures compliance with state, federal and local standards and regulations.
Establishes positive relationships with referral sources in order to maximize nursing home census.
Collaborates with the
CNO, COO, VP
Rehabilitation, CMO, medical directors, and Director of Nursing - Skilled Nursing to ensure delivery of high quality, effective, and efficient patient care.
Work will be performed in an ethical and legal manner following organizational policies, processes, protocols and procedures.
Responsible for internal/external customer relations for Madonna as a whole, including upholding the mission and values for the department, facility, and organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Analyze revenues and expenses for the nursing facility to maximize financial stewardship.
Analyze nursing facility outcomes to improve quality of services.
Collaborates with the COO to set and pursue a strategic long-range plan for the nursing facility, establishing level of need, financial viability, and necessary operational definitions utilizing logical or scientific thinking to draw valid conclusions.
Formulate and implement solutions to administrative, system concerns, maintaining programs and practices in line with federal, state, and accrediting standards.
Analyze, compile and synthesize current research to keep delivery of services current with latest research as well as for the development of expansion of services.
Analyze and coordinate operational budgets for resident care services and the nursing facility in accordance with organizational goals in order to control expenses and maximize revenues and profitability.
Coordinates quality improvement and risk management activities in coordination with Madonna's Patient Safety and Quality committee and reports quality outcomes to the quality improvement committee of the Madonna Board of Directors.
Plans and implements, in conjunction with other appropriate staff, marketing activities to promote program awareness and utilization of the nursing facility.
Coordinates licensing and accreditation activities for nursing facility services.
Monitors and analyzes revenue and expenses.
Responsible for supervision and effective management of unit managers/supervisors, MDS nurses, case managers, and recreation supervisors, and collaborates closely with COO, CNO, and Director Nursing - Skilled Nursing with concern resolution, future direction issues, efficiency, and effectiveness issues.
Recruits and hires assigned staff and ensures appropriate department orientation to set staff up for success.
Clearly articulates expectations and monitors performance and provides timely feedback for improvement and engages in coaching and discipline as needed.
Fosters the learning and development of staff in collaboration with COO, CNO, and Director Nursing - Skilled Nursing, identifying individual needs and providing developmental opportunities, assignments and training.
Defines parameters and desired outcomes for employee's assigned responsibilities and allows staff latitude to complete work independently and learn from their mistakes.
Devotes time to listen and provide mentoring and feedback for individual development.
Actively manages and effectively facilitates positive relationships between employees on the team.
Communicates effectively with staff, responding to requests and questions and communicating department and facility information in a timely manner.
Follows up on ideas and suggestions from staff, communicating outcomes.
Uses courage and tact to address concerns and difficult situations.
Communicates regularly with the President and CEO, VP and COO, CNO, Strategic Planning Committee, Administrative Team and departmental managers regarding identified or potential areas of program development.
Confers with a variety of public personnel, including others in the health care field, regarding program development opportunities and other issues related to nursing facilities and rehabilitation to enhance program awareness and optimize opportunities for joint support of programs.
Follows instruction from supervisor to perform other functions as assigned in order to achieve the goals of the facility.
Operate personal computer and printer for processing, planning and financial documents as well as other technological resources.
Maintains a clean, organized and safe environment.
Handles and operates all necessary equipment and performs required duties according to established safety standards to maintain compliance with regulations and prevent injury.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Light work - primarily sedentary activities at desk with some pulling, pushing file cabinets, reaching, answering telephone and occasional lifting of up to ten pounds. Environment - inside office setting with occasional noise from computer printer.
Requires sufficient sight to see and read reports and computer screen. Requires sufficient hearing and speaking to communicate by phone or in person.
QUALIFICATIONS
(Education/training and/or Experience)
Requires a current Nebraska Nursing Home Administrators license.
Bachelor of Science Nursing and five years related nursing management/administrative experience required.
Extensive knowledge and management/leadership experience in nursing facilities, governmental licensure regulations, and all Medicaid/Medicare procedures.
Demonstrated history of working cooperatively and harmoniously with residents, residents' families/representatives, facility staff, physicians, consults, etc. Excellent organization, communication, and collaboration skills required. Background checks are conducted. When specific authorization forms are requested so that full background and history can be obtained, employees/applicants must sign the form(s) requested.
