Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and registered with the New Hampshire State Board of Nursing, and possess a RN license. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.REPORTS TO
School Principal SheJOB DESCRIPTION
The school Nurse manages the health office, which encompasses the planning and implementation of health services for student needs. Working in cooperation with the administrative staff, school personnel, parents, school physician, other district school nurses and other health care disciplines.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Maintains a health record for each student by utilizing health and developmental history from the parent, the family physician and other health related agencies. This includes but is not limited to, completing and recording the results from the vision, hearing, height and weight screening, and recording immunizations, etc. Also once deficiencies are discovered referrals are made. 2) Serves as a health consultant for the school, is an advocate of health rights for the student, counsels students, families and staff on health related issues. Communicates with staff, parents and physicians on students physical and emotional health concerns confidentially as needed. 3) Maintains confidentiality of all matters pertaining to students. 4) Tends to student injuries and illness as they occur, by developing a practical system for providing first aid and emergency care for students and staff who become injured or ill. 5) Is aware of NH state regulation including administration of medication, immunization and communicable diseases. 6) Identify and exclude from school those students and staff with communicable disease and initiate appropriate follow up to ensure their prompt return. 7) Responsible for ensuring adequate supplies for health office and presenting an accurate budget to support it. 8) Is aware of NH medication laws for schools and abides by them. Which includes maintaining a daily log book of medication that is given. 9) Identifies medically fragile students and formulates a comprehensive care plan, ensuring appropriate staff are aware of the care plan. 10) Participates in health education for students and staff as needed. 11) Serves on appropriate committees as a health care representative. 12) Assist in identifying, taking histories, and evaluation physically and developmentally challenged children. Participates with the education team in the development, implementation, and management of educational plans/programs for students with disabilities. 13) Complies monthly and annual school health reports. Along with other surveys and reports as needed. 14) Contributes to health maintenance, control and prevention of illness and accidents in the school environment. Promotes safety awareness and a hazard free environment. Provides appropriate emergency health services as required. 15) Performs related responsibilities as required by the school principal. 16) Builds effective relationships within and outside the organization. Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with others. Adapts readily and appropriately to unforeseen challenges. Demonstrates flexibility and adjust to changing work demands. Pursues responsibilities in a focused positive and enthusiastic manner. Manages time effectively to ensure that deadlines are met. Demonstrates professionalism through the maintenance of clear professional and ethical guidelines/boundaries as well as through self-presentation (dress, language and behavior.) 17) This position involves exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.Job Type:
