Duties Provide comprehensive labor and delivery nursing care, including monitoring fetal heart rates, managing labor progression, and supporting patients through childbirth. Perform detailed patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and physiological evaluations to determine labor progress and maternal well-being. Administer medications such as epidurals, pain management drugs, and antibiotics following strict protocols; manage IV infusions and catheter care as needed. Utilize advanced EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems like Epic or Cerner to document patient information accurately and efficiently. Assist with procedures including suturing, sterile dressing changes, and neonatal resuscitation; support emergency interventions during obstetric crises. Educate patients on childbirth processes, postpartum care, breastfeeding techniques, and newborn care to promote family-centered support. Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and other healthcare professionals in a variety of hospital settings including Level I Trauma Centers or teaching hospitals. Requirements Valid RN license with current state licensure or multi-state compact license for travel assignments. Proven experience in Labor & Delivery nursing within hospital environments; experience in Level I or Level II trauma centers highly preferred. Strong knowledge of obstetric procedures, fetal monitoring (including electronic fetal heart rate monitoring), and neonatal resuscitation protocols (e.g., NRP certification). Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; proficiency in medical documentation and coding (ICD-10/ICD-9). Ability to perform complex patient assessments, manage acute pain cases, and handle emergency situations swiftly and effectively. Experience working with diverse patient populations including high-risk pregnancies, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those requiring specialized care such as memory or hospice & palliative medicine. Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Sterile Technique are required.
