- Travel is responsible for delivering safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care to pediatric through geriatric patient populations in the surgical setting.
The RN demonstrates competent clinical judgment, assessment skills, and technical expertise while supporting the multidisciplinary surgical team throughout the continuum of care. The OR RN is accountable for patient safety, accurate documentation, patient education, and adherence to hospital policies, procedures, and National Patient Safety Goals. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Patient Assessment & Clinical Care Perform comprehensive and accurate patient assessments for pediatric, adult, and geriatric surgical patients. Deliver direct patient care in accordance with nursing standards, departmental protocols, and perioperative best practices. Assess patient condition before, during, and after surgical procedures and respond appropriately to changes in status. Demonstrate competency with emergency equipment, surgical procedures, and perioperative nursing interventions. Individualize patient care based on surgical procedure, anesthesia type, and patient condition. Perioperative Nursing Responsibilities Support perioperative patient care across the continuum including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases. Demonstrate knowledge of surgical procedures, diagnoses, instrumentation, and operating room equipment. Prioritize patient care needs and collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary team members. Maintain accountability for safe patient handling, transfer techniques, and proper body mechanics. Documentation & Compliance Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory guidelines. Document all components of the nursing process, patient progress, interventions, and patient education in the medical record. Adhere to HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Follow Universal Protocol and National Patient Safety Goals including use of two patient identifiers. Patient & Family Education Educate patients and family members regarding surgical procedures, pre-operative instructions, post-operative care, and recovery expectations. Assess patient understanding and reinforce education to promote positive surgical outcomes. Complete pre-operative and post-operative assessments and patient teaching documentation. PAT RN Responsibilities (if applicable) Support timely completion of Pre-Admission Testing (PAT). Review PAT orders for completeness and appropriateness based on surgery type, patient age, and health status. Identify potential omissions or discrepancies and communicate findings appropriately. Required Qualifications Active RN License BLS Certification Minimum one (1) year Operating Room nursing experience Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing Preferred Qualifications CNOR Certification Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Required Skills Operating Room Nursing Perioperative Patient Care Surgical Patient Assessment Pre-Op and Post-Op Care Documentation & Charting Patient Education Emergency Response Knowledge of Surgical Procedures and Equipment Safe Patient Handling Techniques Interdisciplinary Team Collaboration Physical Requirements Must meet physical requirements as defined by Occupational Safety/OMS standards.
