- 8:00 PM Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Travel Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) to join the surgical services team at Overlook Medical Center.
The OR RN is responsible for delivering high-quality perioperative nursing care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care throughout the surgical experience. The ideal candidate will be experienced in both scrubbing and circulating for a variety of surgical specialties, including Orthopedic, General Surgery, Urology, and Robotic procedures . This role requires exceptional clinical judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the interdisciplinary surgical team to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care. Key Responsibilities Patient Assessment & Clinical Care Perform comprehensive preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative patient assessments. Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care for pediatric through geriatric patient populations. Monitor patient status throughout surgical procedures and respond appropriately to changes in condition. Utilize critical thinking to prioritize patient care based on acuity and surgical needs. Demonstrate competency in emergency procedures and operation of emergency equipment. Operating Room Responsibilities Scrub and circulate for a variety of surgical procedures.
Support surgical cases including:
Orthopedic Surgery General Surgery Urology Robotic Surgery Prepare operating rooms with necessary instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies. Maintain sterile technique and ensure compliance with infection prevention standards. Assist surgeons and the surgical team during operative procedures. Verify surgical counts and ensure patient safety throughout procedures. Demonstrate knowledge of surgical equipment, instrumentation, and operative procedures. Documentation Accurately document all aspects of the nursing process. Complete perioperative documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements. Record patient assessments, interventions, education, and outcomes in the electronic medical record. Patient Education Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures, expectations, and postoperative care. Assess patient understanding and reinforce education as needed. Complete preoperative and postoperative teaching and discharge instructions. Perioperative Coordination Coordinate care with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and nursing staff. Prioritize patient care assignments while maintaining efficient OR workflow. Participate in patient handoffs and multidisciplinary communication. Patient Safety & Quality Adhere to National Patient Safety Goals and Universal Protocol. Utilize two patient identifiers for every patient encounter. Follow safe patient handling and transfer techniques. Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Promote a culture of patient safety and quality improvement. Professional Practice Demonstrate accountability, professionalism, and ethical nursing practice. Maintain competency in perioperative nursing standards. Participate in ongoing professional development and education. Follow hospital policies, procedures, and evidence-based practice guidelines. Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) Support (When Assigned) Review Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) orders for completeness and appropriateness. Ensure required testing is completed prior to scheduled procedures. Identify potential omissions based on surgical procedure, patient age, and medical history. Required QualificationsEducation Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Experience Minimum 1 year of recent Operating Room Registered Nurse experience . Recent acute care hospital Operating Room experience required. Must have experience scrubbing and circulating. Experience with the following specialties is required: Orthopedic Surgery General Surgery Urology Robotic Surgery Required Licensure & Certifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) License. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Preferred Certification CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room).
