Job Description

About the Role The PAT Nurse is responsible for coordinating and completing the pre-admission testing process to ensure patients undergoing procedures are medically optimized and appropriate for ambulatory surgery, and for coordinating and maintaining the daily surgical schedule to optimize block time utilization and OR efficiency. This role also provides direct patient care in the Pre-Operative and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) settings as needed, where the RN is responsible for comprehensive nursing care of surgical patients, including assessment, preparation, monitoring, recovery, discharge readiness, and patient education. The RN ensures compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards while maintaining patient safety as the highest priority. What You'll Be Doing Pre-Admission Testing (Primary Role) Perform comprehensive pre-operative nursing assessments. Ensure appropriate patient selection for ambulatory surgery. Review and validate all required diagnostics based on procedure type, including labs, EKGs, urine cultures, and imaging. Identify abnormal findings and coordinate follow-up with surgeon and anesthesia provider. Coordinate required medical clearances in accordance with facility policy Ensure completion of pre-anesthesia evaluation requirements. Verify all required documentation is present and complete prior to day of surgery. Surgical Scheduling Coordination Coordinate and maintain the daily surgical schedule in collaboration with surgeons, anesthesia, and leadership. Ensure appropriate case sequencing based on medical complexity, Anesthesia requirements, equipment and staffing needs. Communicate schedule changes to all relevant departments in a timely manner Assist with block time utilization and optimization of OR efficiency Preoperative Phone Calls Complete preoperative phone calls within designated timeframe prior to surgery Ensure patient questions are addressed and documented Communicate any concerns or barriers to care with the clinical team Preoperative Responsibilities Provides back-up coverage as a Pre-op/PACU Nurse, as assigned. General Responsibilities Adheres to infection control standards specific to patient care. Acts as a patient advocate and uphold patient rights. Regularly attends staff meeting, orientations, and in-services. Maintains confidentiality of all information in the medical record and assigned computer codes. Maintains current knowledge of ambulatory post-anesthesia/peri-operative nursing practice. Utilizes opportunities for professional growth by attending continuing education programs. Maintains and ensures dress code and decorum. Promotes good image of Center to patients, physicians, vendors and community. Demonstrates professional behavior by being technically competent, skilled and responsive to the Center's customers in a compassionate, efficient and effective manner. Demonstrates knowledge of surgical emergency preparedness, Malignant hypothermia. Cardiac Arrest, Latex Allergy. Works flexible hours assuming responsibility and accountability for providing patient care. What We Expect From You Required Active and unrestricted New Jersey RN license Minimum 2-4 years of experience in Pre-Op, PACU, Critical Care, or Emergency Nursing Current BLS certification Current ACLS certification Knowledge of ambulatory surgery workflows and patient safety standards Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing required Strong interpersonal and organizational skills Strong clinical judgment and attention to detail Proficiency with electronic medical record documentation Ability to multitask and adapt to a fast-paced surgical environment Preferred Bachelor of Science in Nursing 5+ years of experience Urology experience Salary Range $40.00-$54.00 per hour The compensation range listed reflects the anticipated base pay for this position. Salary Range :
$40.00-$54.00 per hour The compensation range listed reflects the anticipated base pay for this position.
