Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Travel Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Operating Room (OR) Circulating duties to join our dynamic healthcare team in New Mexico. In this role, you will provide expert nursing care during surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety, optimal outcomes, and adherence to aseptic techniques. As a Travel RN - OR Circulator, you will be responsible for coordinating surgical activities, managing patient assessments, and supporting the surgical team with comprehensive perioperative care. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in diverse hospital settings, including Level I and Level II trauma centers, with a focus on delivering exceptional patient care across various specialties. Duties Act as the circulating nurse during surgical procedures, managing the sterile field and supporting the surgical team throughout operations. Prepare operating rooms by ensuring all necessary equipment, supplies, and instruments are available and functioning properly. Conduct thorough preoperative patient assessments, including vital signs, medical history review, and physiological evaluations. Assist with patient positioning, anesthesia documentation, and maintaining aseptic technique to prevent infections. Monitor patient status continuously during surgery, responding promptly to any changes or emergencies. Document all aspects of patient care meticulously within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner. Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless surgical procedures. Support post-operative recovery by providing appropriate nursing interventions and patient education. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, HIPAA regulations, and infection control standards at all times. Participate in ongoing training related to specialty areas such as ophthalmology, cardiac catheterization procedures, or trauma medicine. Requirements Valid RN license in the state of New Mexico or appropriate multi-state licensure for travel assignments. Proven OR circulating experience with a minimum of two years working in hospital environments; experience in Level I or Level II trauma centers preferred. Proficiency in operating room protocols including aseptic technique and sterile processing standards. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; experience with ICD coding and medical documentation is advantageous. Critical care experience including ICU or emergency medicine is highly desirable. Knowledge of specialty procedures such as botulinum toxin treatment, catheterization (including cardiac), suturing techniques, and IV infusion management. Ability to work effectively under pressure in fast-paced settings while maintaining attention to detail. Strong communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration and patient interaction. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred. Additional skills such as laboratory experience, specimen collection/processing, or familiarity with pain management protocols will enhance candidacy.
