Emergency RN - Full Time

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides professional nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department, adhering to established policies and procedures to ensure safe, effective and timely care. Delivers age-appropriate care across the lifespan, from infant to geriatric patients. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care in a fast-paces, high-acuity environment, collaborating with the multidisciplinary care team. Demonstrates the critical knowledge and skills necessary to identify and address the unique and urgent needs of all patients in the emergency setting.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
EducationMinimum of an associates degree in nursing
Licensure Required:
Current Nevada RN license
Certification Required:
BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC required
Certification Preferred:
ENPC recommendedExperiencePrevious Emergency department experience preferredOtherProfessional customer service skillsAbility to read and communicate in English, bilingual abilities preferred.
POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Patient CareAssess and diagnose patient and family needs in order to provide high-quality care to all patients.

Provides patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with others as needed and adjusts care plans as needed to ensure optimal care.

Performs system assessments as designated and at appropriate intervals on all assigned patients, recognizing disturbed physiology and abnormal parameters.

Identifies discharge planning needs of patient/family/significant other on admission.

CommunicationCollaborates with patients, families and significant others to develop and discuss a realistic pan of care, addressing all identified needs. Creates and communicates patient and family education and discharge plans in accordance with Unit standards.

JudgmentDemonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.

Adheres to hospital policy and procedures for administering, transcribing, and recording of medications. Demonstrates knowledge of commonly used meds: action1 dose, and side effects.

Observes 10 rights of medication administration: right medication, right dose, right time, right route, right patient, right education, right documentation, right to refuse, right assessment and right evaluationDemonstrates proper procedures in all methods of medication administration.

Administers blood and blood products following hospital policy and procedures.

Initiates and maintains IV access according to hospital policy and procedures.

Assesses and documents IV site per Unit standard.

Quality of CareContinuously evaluates identified problems, care provided and patient's responses to ensure that patient and family needs are met quality care is delivered.

Assesses the patient learning needs, abilities, preferences, and readiness to learn.

Evaluates the effectiveness of teaching plans by assessing patient and family responses.

Modifies the plan of care as necessary to meet the needs of the patient and their significant others. Scope of ServicePerforms all responsibilities/duties required by unit as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of each client is addressed, including age specific considerations. Assesses, evaluates, and carries out nursing interventions and teaching for emergency department patientsDemonstrates skill and knowledge in nursing management of emergency situations.

Demonstrates knowledge and skill in use of special equipment such as IV pump, Hotline, VS monitor, Cardiac monitor.

Maintains sterile field for minor OR procedures such as insertion of central lines, chest tubes, etc.

Complies with current policies and procedures pertaining to vaccination of patients and the documentation of teaching done.

Demonstrates knowledge and skill in specific areas of clinical experience, as applicable.

DocumentationMaintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.

Completes thorough and accurate nursing assessments in accordance with emergency department standards. Documents patient care and reassessments in integrated progress notes per unit standards.

Monitors and ensures accuracy of documentation in the patient EMR.Medication administration record must include title of nurse administering med, time given, reason for omission, site for injection (if applicable) and waste witnessed.

Discharge plan accurately reflects patient and/or significant other's ability to manage care after discharge. Referrals are made based on identified needs.

Completes and accurately documents COBRA forms and narcotic administration.
