  • is a registered nurse with advanced education and experience who cares for a specific population of patients in the Behavioral Health Service Provides a unique approach to healthcare that allows the incorporation of traditional nursing skills as well as advanced practice skills in the care of mental health patients Implement preventive health measures with a strong emphasis on patient/significant other/family education as well as illness management of the mental health specialty care Demonstrates competency and the ability to either set up or reprocess Reusable Medical Equipment as applicable for all equipment for which he/she has been trained Familiarizes self with how their activities impact VA's goal to implement sound stewardship practices that are protective of the air•water•land•and other natural and cultural resources In accordance with the goals of the VA GEMS program•seeks to cost-effectively meet or exceed compliance with applicable Federal•State•and local environmental public health and resource protection laws•regulations•and VA requirements Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership•experience•and creative approaches to the management of complex patient care in the Mental Health Clinic including the following: assessments•prescribing of medication•ordering lab work as needed•developing and implementing a treatment plan•and conducting therapies according to scope of practice Practice is both independent and interdependent which includes cooperative and/or collaborative practice arrangement with the providers of the Mental Health Clinic and the other behavioral health care disciplines The Mental Health NP participates in the management of patients with chronic and acute mental health conditions Components of care include pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapeutics•health education and counseling•coordination of services•mobilization of resources•and advocacy for client decision-making related to recovery-oriented goals EDRP•This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP)•a student loan payment reimbursement program You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment Program Approval•award amount (up to $200•000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application
