Job Description

This ambulatory surgery center will provide state-of-the-art urological care tailed to the needs of each patient. Pay- $30-51hr GeneralDuties The Preop/PACU/Discharge Nurse (RN) is responsible for independent peri-anesthetic management of a complex, varied surgical and procedural population. The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive care for surgical patients who may also have underlying medical and emotional problems. They must facilitate and demonstrates cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors. General duties include but are not limited to: Assess, instruct & prepare patients prior to surgery Ensure that operative and informed consents are signed and correct Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure Initiate IVs and ensure patients are informed about procedure Preparing, administering, and recording prescribed medications Adjusting specialized medical equipment as needed, as well as interpreting and recording measurements Monitor vital signs and other measurements of progress, meeting discharge criteria Maintaining and updating patient files, medical charts, and health records Answer patient questions and ensure patient comfort Monitor patients for condition changes, reporting any changes to physician Respect the patient's right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality Adhering to best nursing practices, standards, and protocols Establishes an in-depth database by assessing the behavioral and physical status of a variety of pre-surgical patient populations, utilizing interview, observation, and physical examination. Interprets overt and subtle data to determine physiologic or psychosocial risk. Evaluates patient's responses to care based on the effectiveness of nursing interventions in relation to established outcomes and consults with the medical staff. Recommends changes to the plan of care based on observed variances. Integrates nursing interventions into the multidisciplinary plan of care, incorporating appropriate standards of care and practice. Identifies learning needs with patients and families and teaches by adapting standard information to provide individualized and comprehensive learning. Plans interventions and evaluates patient response based on expected outcomes identified on the critical pathway or multidisciplinary plan of care. Incorporates discharge/home care planning into the multidisciplinary plan of care. Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to make sound nursing judgment based on nursing theory. Ability to function safely and effectively in a surgical environment. Ability to think critically and problem solve, making rational and appropriate decisions. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Can adapt to rapidly changing workloads due to changes in the surgery census. Can frequently and consistently make sound judgments. Ability to interact with patients and family in such a manner as to inspire confidence and gain patient's cooperation. Ability to communicate (understand written and oral communication) with medical staff and physicians involved with patient care. Ability to effectively send, receive and respond to information effectively in English; including the ability to read, write, listen, speak observe and use computers. Availability to work shifts that rotate between days and evenings. In rare instances, nurse may need to attend the recovering patient through the night until discharge requirements are met. o Demonstrates a willingness to look at new ideas and work in a changing environment. o Understands, verbalizes, and participates in the quality improvement process. o Supports initiatives designed to improve individual and organizational performance. o Provides appropriate patient care across the age span. o Demonstrates knowledge of medical record policy and procedure in management of patient information. o Participates in medical records QAPI. Education and Experience Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and hold current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada. Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification required. Must possess general clinical competency in acute patient care. Must demonstrate aptitude for maintaining pace of abbreviated patient encounters, keeping patient flow to two hour or less stay in post-operative care. Must demonstrate ability to gather pertinent medical history and provide concise instruction for pre-operative and post-operative care. Specialized knowledge, skill, and abilities in perioperative nursing. Two+ years of Critical Care or PACU experience preferred.
