Job Description

Category Schools - RN Nurse Job Type Contract Step into a deeply rewarding contract nursing opportunity supporting a student who recently received a tracheostomy. This unique role offers the chance to deliver one-to-one care within a school environment, ensuring safety and comfort for a child throughout their learning experience. The position is ideal for compassionate registered nurses with a passion for pediatric care and specialized experience in tracheostomy management. The assignment begins as soon as July, supporting the Extended School Year (ESY) session through mid-August, with a seamless transition to the regular academic year (NSY) in September. If summertime is unavailable, you can begin in September for the start of the school year. The student, placed at a specialized educational setting in Ashville, NY, requires expert care to thrive in their daily activities.
Qualifications:
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State Experience with tracheostomy care required Pediatric or school-based nursing experience highly preferred Current BLS/CPR certification Strong assessment, communication, and documentation skills Ability to work independently and respond calmly in emergency situations
Key Responsibilities:
Provide vigilant 1:1 nursing care for the student with a tracheostomy throughout the school day Perform routine trach care, monitor respiratory status, and deliver emergency interventions as needed Collaborate with educators, therapy staff, and family to support the student's educational and health needs Maintain accurate health records and document all care activities Advocate for optimal student health, safety, and inclusion in classroom activities Gain the satisfaction of making a profound difference during a pivotal time for a young learner.
