Full Job Description Job Summary:
Provides direct patient care to adult and geriatric patients in the endoscopy setting. Functions as part of a team to meet the needs of patients, families, physicians and staff to accomplish quality, efficient, cost effective care. Demonstrates competency in the essential duties and responsibilities listed below.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Provides quality nursing care to patients(s) before, during and after endoscopy procedures, in accordance with New York Nurse Practice Act , National Standards of Practice, facility policy, and all applicable regulatory and accreditation bodies. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the care of patients undergoing endoscopic procedures with and without anesthesia or sedation. Initiates proactive nursing interventions which reflect assessment skills that minimize negative outcomes. Communicates appropriately with peers, management and physicians, patients and patient's family members, maintaining confidentiality. Appropriately documents care provided. Promotes, provides and documents patient and family education/discharge teaching. Ensures that Universal Precautions and the principles of aseptic and sterile technique are used properly. Implements safe practices and provides knowledgeable guidance and evaluation of the environment of care management to include infection control practices, safe use of medical equipment, and adherence to life safety codes. Participates in orientation, continuing education, staff meetings, and performance improvement activities to promote safe, quality, cost efficient patient care. Accepts additional responsibilities related to essential functions of the department outside of direct patient care, such as supply ordering, staff education and training, quality assurance monitoring. Assists in creating an atmosphere of mutual respect, trust, and support. Expresses self as a professional role model to staff and others. Promotes teamwork and maintains the focus on the patient as the priority at all times.
Education, Training, Experience, Certification, and Licensure:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and current licensure in New York State, with a minimum of 1 year related acute care experience. Current BLS and ACLS certification. Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to care of endoscopy patients.
Work Contact Group:
Regular contact with patients, employees, medical staff, visitors, and the general public.
Work Environment and Hazards:
Clinical Setting. Exposure Class 1.
Physical Demands:
Medium work: must be able to lift and/or move 25 pounds frequently; occasionally lift and/or move over 50 pounds. Will require ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, squat, reach, hear, talk, and type on a keyboard.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as physician orders, laboratory results, safety rules, operating and technical instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write and type routine reports and correspondence. Per Diem. No Holidays, No Weekends, No Call!
