Job Description
Summary The New York State Veterans Home at Montrose is a healthcare facility owned and operated by the New York State Department of Health for Veterans and their dependents. Serving the Veterans and their families of the Lower Hudson Valley since 2001. NYSVH Montrose is located on the VA Medical Center Grounds and has 252 beds. Responsibilities The incumbent in this position will develop infection control assessments and plans, including education and training programs for individuals and staff. Infection Control Nurse serves as a liaison between healthcare departments, disciplines, and staff, to ensure compliance with infection prevention and control standards, and regulations. The Infection Control Nurse will develop and implement policies and procedures in support of an infection control and prevention program to eliminate or reduce risks of infection among individuals, employees, and visitors through daily surveillance. The incumbent will act as an infection control liaison between departments, medical services, infection control committees, facility administration, and community programs, while providing consultation on infection control matters and issues. They will oversee a preventive health program integrated into the overall infection control and prevention program. Qualifications Candidates must be in possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; 3 years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience; 1 year of this experience must have been primarily working in the development, implementation, or administration of an infection control program. A bachelor's degree in nursing can substitute for one year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience; a master's degree in nursing can substitute for two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience; and possession of a current Certified in Infection Control (CIC) certificate issued by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology can substitute for the one year of infection control program experience.
