Job Description

Category Nursing - RN-Stepdown Job Type Contract An experienced Registered Nurse (RN) with specialized Cardiac Telemetry Stepdown/PCU expertise is needed for a 13-week contract in Owego, NY. This role requires proficiency in cardiac stepdown care, including managing complex cardiac patients using telemetry monitoring and advanced cardiac interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver comprehensive nursing care to a group of patients on a cardiac stepdown unit, ensuring safety, effectiveness, and compliance with regulatory standards. Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, and evaluate nursing care as primary or accountable nurse. Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management. Administer medications safely, demonstrating pharmacological knowledge specific to cardiac care. Participate actively in nursing governance, peer review, and continuous improvement initiatives. Support and mentor new employees and students. Comply with all nursing practice standards and organizational policies.
Qualifications and Required Experience:
Minimum of 5 years registered nursing experience. Proven experience in a cardiac telemetry department, with hands-on knowledge of TAVR, Watchman device, mitral clips, heart catheterizations, and pre/post-op open-heart care. Skilled with cardiac IV and PO medications and drips, including Cardizem, amiodarone, dobutamine, lidocaine, milrinone, heparin, insulin, and anticoagulants. Familiarity with management of arrhythmias, NSTEMI, STEMI, CHF, CP, PE, sepsis, pneumonia, stroke, and post-CABG care beyond 3 days. Experienced in TR band usage, groin management, and recognizing complications. Current BLS and ACLS certifications required. Completion of a telemetry skills checklist is mandatory.
Schedule:
12-hour night shifts. 36 hours per week. Every other weekend.
