Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Corrections Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive nursing care within correctional facility settings. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in acute and chronic care, with the ability to manage complex medical cases in a secure environment. This role offers an opportunity to deliver vital healthcare services to a diverse population while ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. The Corrections Registered Nurse will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, maintain meticulous medical documentation, and uphold the highest standards of patient care. Responsibilities Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and health histories, to determine immediate and long-term healthcare needs. Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and perform procedures such as suturing and catheter care following aseptic techniques. Manage acute pain and chronic conditions, including infectious disease care, trauma medicine, and mental health issues within the correctional environment. Document all patient interactions accurately using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations. Coordinate referrals for specialized services including ophthalmology, dialysis, cardiology (including cardiac catheterization), and long-term care programs like memory care or hospice & palliative medicine. Provide triage assessments for inmates presenting with urgent or emergent health concerns in accordance with emergency room protocols. Support discharge planning and case management efforts to facilitate continuity of care upon release or transfer. Maintain infection control standards, sterile processing protocols, and ensure adherence to NCQA standards for quality assurance. Skills Extensive experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth for accurate medical documentation. Proficiency in performing advanced nursing procedures including IV insertion, phlebotomy, tube feeding management, and ventilator support. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and diagnostic evaluation techniques. Critical care experience in settings such as ICU or Level I Trauma Center environments is highly desirable. Familiarity with working in high-pressure environments like emergency medicine, urgent care, or hospital medicine units. Ability to manage complex cases involving behavioral health issues, geriatrics (including dementia & Alzheimer's care), and patients with disabilities or developmental delays. Strong communication skills for effective patient assessment, health coaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration within correctional healthcare teams.
