Job Description

Job description The Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse provides high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to adult patients with acute and chronic medical conditions. The RN is responsible for continuous cardiac monitoring, patient assessment, clinical interventions, and coordination of care to ensure safe and effective patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities1. Patient Assessment & Monitoring Perform comprehensive head-to-toe and focused assessments. Monitor vital signs, fluid balance, neurological status, and overall patient condition. Continuously interpret and observe cardiac rhythms through telemetry systems. Recognize and promptly respond to changes in patient status, including arrhythmias and deterioration. 2. Medication Administration & Treatment Administer medications safely, including IV medications, blood products, and controlled substances. Initiate and manage IV lines, central lines, and peripheral access. Provide wound care, dressing changes, and post-operative care. Perform pain assessments and implement effective pain management strategies. 3. Telemetry Monitoring Identify normal and abnormal cardiac rhythms, such as A-fib, V-tach, PVCs, pauses, and heart blocks. Document rhythm strips and report significant changes to the physician in a timely manner. Collaborate with telemetry technicians when applicable. 4. Care Coordination & Communication Work collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, and case managers. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and contribute to the patient's plan of care. Provide clear communication to patients and families regarding treatments, care plans, and discharge instructions. 5. Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR). Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control standards, and patient safety protocols. Participate in bedside shift reporting to ensure continuity of care. 6. Patient Education Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medication management, procedures, and lifestyle modifications. Provide discharge teaching and ensure understanding of follow-up care. 7. Emergency Response & Safety Respond effectively to rapid responses, code blues, and other emergencies. Implement fall prevention strategies and maintain a safe environment for all patients. Follow all safety, infection prevention, and regulatory protocols. 8. Unit Support & Teamwork Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers. Prioritize and manage care for 4-6 patients per shift (depending on unit standards). Collaborate with team members and support a positive work environment. BSc or other diploma from a nursing program Valid nursing license
