Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Corrections Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive nursing care within a correctional facility. This role offers an opportunity to serve a unique patient population, ensuring their health and safety while adhering to strict security protocols. The ideal candidate will possess a strong clinical background, excellent assessment skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, secure environment. This position is fully paid and requires a commitment to delivering compassionate, high-quality care in challenging settings. Responsibilities Conduct thorough health assessments and initial screenings for inmates upon intake and throughout their incarceration. Administer medications, including injections and IV infusions, following established protocols and ensuring proper documentation in electronic health records (EHR systems). Provide emergency care and manage acute pain, trauma, or illness using aseptic techniques and critical care procedures. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized treatment plans, including chronic disease management such as diabetes, hypertension, and infectious diseases. Perform wound suturing, specimen collection, laboratory testing, and other diagnostic evaluations as needed. Educate inmates on health promotion, disease prevention, medication adherence, and lifestyle modifications tailored to their needs. Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and ensure confidentiality of all medical records while adhering to institutional policies. Support discharge planning and coordinate with external healthcare providers for continuity of care post-release or transfer. Experience Valid registered nurse (RN) license with current state certification. Prior experience working in correctional facilities or similar secure environments is highly preferred. Demonstrated proficiency in medical-surgical nursing, emergency medicine, or critical care settings such as ICU or trauma centers. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or Athenahealth for accurate documentation. Knowledge of infectious disease control practices and OSHA safety standards within healthcare settings. Experience with medication administration including IV therapy, catheterization, phlebotomy, and wound care such as suturing. Strong assessment skills with the ability to handle complex cases involving behavioral health, geriatrics, or patients with developmental disabilities. Ability to work independently while maintaining teamwork in high-pressure situations requiring triage or urgent care interventions.
