Full-Time Contract We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) for a contract assignment within a correctional healthcare setting. This position offers the opportunity to provide essential nursing services while working alongside an interdisciplinary healthcare team in a secure environment. Position Summary The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to patients within a correctional facility. Responsibilities include assessment, treatment, medication administration, chronic disease management, emergency response, patient education, and coordination of care. The RN collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, healthcare staff, and security personnel to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered healthcare delivery. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPatient Care Administer medications, including oral, intramuscular, and intravenous medications. Monitor patient medication compliance and response to treatment. Perform nursing assessments and document findings accurately and timely. Obtain and record vital signs and health information. Conduct or assist with nurse and physician sick call. Provide nursing management and support for chronic care clinics. Perform treatments and collect laboratory specimens as needed. Respond to medical emergencies and provide emergency care, including CPR. Care Coordination Prepare patients for transfer, court appearances, or release. Complete transfer summaries and discharge documentation. Ensure discharge medication orders are completed and forwarded to pharmacy services. Review shift reports and communicate patient care needs effectively. Leadership and Collaboration Assist physicians with medical procedures. Educate patients regarding health maintenance, wellness, and disease prevention. Train and mentor new nurses, agency nurses, licensed practical nurses, and healthcare support staff. Serve as a healthcare resource for clinical and security personnel. Participate in quality assurance activities and health and wellness initiatives. Assume charge nurse responsibilities as assigned. Serve as the lead clinical authority on site in the absence of supervisory and provider staff. Administrative Responsibilities Attend meetings and required training sessions. Participate in institutional training exercises. Schedule and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings. Assist with staffing assignments and shift operations as directed. Qualifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing. Current CPR/BLS certification (or ability to obtain prior to start). Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills. Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational abilities. Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and secure correctional environment.
