Qualifications:
Licensed Nurse Expectations:
Follow board policy and administrative procedures. Triage, assess, and address student and/or staff illness and injuries. Monitor student health records and data, including immunization, documentation of medication administration, confidential documents, and health action plans. Knowledge, understanding, and compliance with HIPAA and FERPA laws. Administer prescription medications according to the medical care provider's orders. Administer, with parental written consent, over-the-counter medication. In an emergency, perform CPR, First Aid, an AED, Narcan, and Epinephrine administration. Utilize EMS appropriately. Provide vision and hearing screenings as required by the Ohio Department of Health. Notify parents/guardians when referral for further evaluation is necessary. Report findings to the District Nurse to compile for state-required reports. Coordinate the intake, approval, development, and/or distribution of student health-related information and forms with assistance from the District Nurse. This may include asthma, severe allergies, seizure, and diabetes action plans, physician/medication forms, immunization records, and health condition summaries used by appropriate staff. Provide training to school staff on Chronic Medical Conditions, such as Allergies, Asthma, Diabetes, Seizures, and other health concerns, as required. Collaborate with physicians, parents/guardians and school staff to develop plans of care for students with chronic disease and special needs. Communicates effectively with parents and staff, verbal and written. Promote wellness initiatives that improve health and school performance. Ability to work well with students, staff and parents. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District. In addition, the employee shall be free of any substance, prescribed or otherwise, that impairs the employee's work performance or the safety of others while on duty.
