Job Description
Category Nursing - RN-Stepdown Job Type Travel Provide specialized nursing care on a progressive care/stepdown unit focused on intermediate and observation-level patients with cardiac and neurological conditions. This 16-bed unit manages complex cases including chest pain, heart catheterization recovery, stroke, seizures, and postoperative neuro-spine patients. Nurses collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to assess, plan, and implement evidence-based care for adults and geriatrics, ensuring patient safety and quality outcomes.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
Current RN license in a compact state or local licensure Minimum 1-year RN experience; at least 6 months in acute care preferred Dysrhythmia exam required; study guide available for preparation BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke certifications required; CCRN and PCCN preferred Experience with cardiac drips, central lines, wound vacs, feeding tubes, and respiratory support modalities (BiPAP, CPAP, High Flow NC) Familiarity with EPIC EHR and critical care nursing skills preferred Ability to manage high patient turnover with ratios averaging 1:4-5, including admissions and discharges Strong clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills necessaryResponsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive assessments; develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans Administer medications and treatments safely and per protocol Serve as liaison among patients, families, and medical teams coordinating care Respond swiftly to changing patient conditions using clinical inquiry Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives Support patients and families coping with complex illness and unexpected events Adhere to infection control and safety policies; utilize personal protective equipment consistentlyLocation Insights:
