6:00 AM - 2:00 PM (Every Other Weekend Required) Position Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care and treatment services within a Commonwealth correctional healthcare facility for individuals with mental illness, physical injuries, developmental disabilities, behavioral health conditions, and other medical needs. The RN may serve as a Charge Nurse, Staff Nurse, or Assessment Coordinator and is responsible for patient assessments, treatment planning, medication administration, clinical procedures, documentation, and coordination of care while ensuring compliance with professional nursing standards and facility policies. Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Treatment Provide professional nursing care and treatment services to patients and residents. Assess, develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans. Monitor patient conditions and respond appropriately to changes in health status. Conduct comprehensive physical and mental health assessments. Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and care coordination. Ensure quality patient care while maintaining compliance with established nursing standards. Charge Nurse Responsibilities Direct and coordinate nursing care activities within assigned units or treatment areas. Supervise paraprofessional and non-professional nursing personnel. Make staffing decisions and coordinate daily workflow. Monitor supply and equipment needs to support patient care. Ensure continuity of care and proper maintenance of clinical records. Assessment & Care Coordination Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized treatment plans. Coordinate care with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams. Communicate with residents and family members regarding treatment and care plans. Complete all required clinical documentation in accordance with federal and state regulations. Clinical Procedures Medication administration and dosage calculations. IV therapy, venipuncture, and heparin lock management. Oxygen administration and respiratory care. Catheter insertion, maintenance, and care. Wound care and dressing changes. Specimen collection and laboratory procedures. EKG administration and monitoring. Enteral nutrition and feeding tube management. Tracheostomy and ventilator care. Blood glucose monitoring and diabetic care. CPR and emergency response procedures. Infection prevention and control practices. Restraint monitoring and patient safety interventions. Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation. Document medication administration and treatment records. Record physician orders and patient care activities. Ensure compliance with correctional healthcare policies, nursing standards, and regulatory requirements. Participate in quality assurance, infection control, and risk management activities. Required Qualifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) License . Active BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification . Previous Correctional Nursing Experience required. Required Skills Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills. Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions. Knowledge of correctional healthcare practices and procedures. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Ability to manage multiple patient needs in a fast-paced environment. Strong understanding of patient safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance. Preferred Experience Experience in correctional, psychiatric, behavioral health, long-term care, or institutional healthcare settings. Previous Charge Nurse or nursing leadership experience. Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems. Work Environment This position is based within a correctional healthcare facility and requires adherence to all facility security protocols, healthcare regulations, and professional nursing standards while providing high-quality patient care.
