Fully accredited by the Commission on Cancer, Geisinger's state-of-the-art cancer center in Dickson City brings all aspects of cancer care together. The new center has 22 infusion bays, three multidisciplinary spaces and a hematology and oncology clinic with 17 exam rooms. The Dickson City facility will also provide radiation oncology — a first for Geisinger in Lackawanna County — a pharmacy, laboratory services and palliative medicine. This site also offers a variety of patient amenities including food services and a coffee bar, a specialty boutique and a courtyard with lush gardens and natural views.
Job Duties:
The RN Coordinator Cancer Care serves in an expanded role to assess patient needs, plan and provide nursing care and coordinate follow-up care for patients receiving treatment in an outpatient Hematology/Oncology setting. Primarily responsible for care navigation throughout the continuum of care. Key responsibilities include patient education, triage and care coordination. This role is full-time, 40 hours weekly; 8-hour shift, 8 am to 4:30 pm. A minimum of 2 years RN work experience is required; Previous Hematology/Oncology experience is preferred. This position must maintain competency in Chemotherapy and Biotherapy administration as demonstrated by completing and maintaining The ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Certification. Job Duties:
Coordinates the treatment plan coordination for Hematology and Oncology patients through the continuum of care. Provides ongoing patient care and education for patients in the adult Hem/Onc Department Serves as a resource person for patient and family regarding the perception of the diagnosis and medical plan of care for the management of disease as designated by the physician. Serves as a patient liaison between the patient and the care team as they encounter issues/obstacles/ changes to their plan of care. Performs pre-visit RN triaging for new and patients to ensure that decisions can be made on the first visit and treatment planning for the Hematologic/Oncologic care can be initiated. Assists with supportive care referrals such as referrals to Palliative care, Psychology, and social work. Directly responsible for the completion and documentation of the initial chemotherapy teach session in EPIC as required by regulatory bodies Participates in performance improvement activities to ensure high quality care delivery and assists providers with completion. Assists with orientation of new personnel to ensure that they are appropriately trained to support patients and provider. Executes and documents ongoing patient communication. Provides instruction to ensure patient's understanding of medical condition and compliance with treatment instructions. Performs and assists with triaging telephone calls concerning health issues and offers appropriate telephone management advice to patients as liaison to physician recommendations. Communicates lab, radiology and other testing results to patients and via telephone and electronic medical record letter notification.

Education:
Graduate from Specialty Training Program-Nursing (Required), Bachelor's Degree-Nursing (Preferred)
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years-Nursing (Required) Certification(s) and License(s): Basic Life Support Certification
  • Default Issuing Body, Chemotherapy and Biotherapy certification courses within 3 months of hire
  • Default Issuing Body, Licensed Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania)
  • RN_State of Pennsylvania, Oncoclogy Certified Nurse required after completion of required hours
  • Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC)
