SUMMARY OF POSITION
Penn State Health has an opportunity for a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to work in our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in our Children's Hospital. This position requires the ability to progress to a high level of autonomy and independence. Responsible for direct patient care and compliance with guidelines as outlined in the collaborative agreement. The Nurse Practitioner provides care to a variety of patients including neurosurgical, surgical, trauma, hematology/oncology, nephrology, pulmonology, cardiac, and post-operative cardiac surgery, and manages all modes of mechanical ventilation, ECMO, and CRRT and performs bone marrow transplants but not solid-organ transplants. This position requires in-house, round-the-clock coverage, weekends, and holidays. The Nurse Practitioner is credentialed and works independently and in collaboration with the attending physicians, fellows, residents, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to provide specialty care to critically ill patients. The NP provides education and instruction, both formal and informal, to residents, nurses, students, and other healthcare professionals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree in a Critical Care or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program with a minimum of one year CRNP experience (which could include clinical rotations or relevant clinical experience in applicable specialty) required and three (3) critical care experience as a staff nurse required. Currently licensed to practice as a CRNP by Pennsylvania Board of Nurse Examiners required. National certification as an advanced practice nurse required. Must possess knowledge of appropriate critical care, to include advanced cardiac life support and basic cardiopulmonary life support certification. Acute critical care certification focus is preferred.
