QUALIFICATIONS:
To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited college or university and hold a proper Pennsylvania certification for the position Current PA Registered Nurse license Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) CPR/AED certification. Background/experience preferred in first aid, pediatric nursing, community health nursing, critical care nursing, medical-surgical nursing, and/or emergency room nursing Knowledge of current Child Abuse Law Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements. Candidate must adhere to all local, state, federal, and school code requirements for employment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
: Employee must have the ability to perform the following essential functions on a timely basis with or without reasonable accommodations. Provides nursing care, provides first aid care within standing orders for accidental injuries; handles life-threatening emergency situations following standard procedures, i.e. allergic reactions, diabetic emergencies; assesses students and communicates with parents when necessary; may administer medication to students following district procedure; provides/assists with diabetic care for students. Evaluates/provides care for special needs students. Assess and provide nursing care/medication for students with asthma. Performs clerical duties in support of health care services: fills out accident reports; prepares health records for new students and maintains a health record for each student; maintains an effective health room schedule; preserves the confidentiality of health care records; answers incoming telephone calls in a friendly, pleasant manner. Maintains the computerized daily journal of treatments and activities. Updates computer records of health problems and new medications. Compiles class trip medical information forms. Reviews and discusses the daily log and is familiar with and updates the medical problems list. Maintains a clean healthcare environment; restocks supplies; disposes of sharps and hazardous waste materials per District and OSHM guidelines. Assists with screening programs as directed by the
Certified School Nurse:
growth, hearing, and vision. May counsel students on health and hygiene; assist guidance counselors and Crisis Intervention Team on an as-needed basis. Review required student immunization for compliance with state regulations. Other duties as may be assigned. Reports to:
The Staff Nurse reports to the designated Certified School Nurse and the building principal of the schools she/he is assigned.
WORK SCHEDULE
The Staff Nurse is included in the Support Staff classification and works 7 hours per day, 185 days per year.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain a stationary position and move about to access multiple classrooms, file cabinets, office equipment, etc. The position requires the employee to frequently operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, fax, and printer. Ability to lift and/or exert up to 20 lbs. of force to occasionally move objects. The position requires meeting deadlines with severe time constraints, interacting with staff and the public, and occasional irregular or extended work hours. This job requires the ability to observe, inspect, identify, and determine accuracy of written documentation and fine details. Some/occasional local travel may be necessary: Must be able to provide own transportation to school-related functions/meetings, community agencies and schools throughout our service area. The employee is frequently required to communicate and interact in person and by phone or e-mail with the public, students, parents, staff, other administrators, board members, and community agencies.
