LOCATION
Lancaster, PA -
Lancaster General Hospital HOURS:
Full Time (40 hours per week). Monday-Friday day shift, with flexibility to provide off shift coverage as needed. No Holidays.
Position Summary:
Provides comprehensive direct nursing care to patients with wounds, ostomy or incontinence issues. Supports the educational needs of health care professionals, and the community as an expert in the field of wound and ostomy management. Patient care includes care to patients in the following age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients. Patient care includes care to patients in the following age groups: neonatal birth to 30 days , pediatric 30 days through 12 years , adolescent 13 through 18 years , adult 19 through 64 years , and geriatric 65 years and above . Qualified individuals must have the ability with or without reasonable accommodation to perform the following duties: Documents relevant patient care information impacting the plan of care placing emphasis on achievement of patient outcomes. Develops educational tools for Wound and Ostomy Care to enhance the learning process and to promote discharge planning. Educates nursing personnel and other health care providers regarding wound and ostomy evidence-based care. Evaluates and monitors effective skin care protocol and utilization of specialty beds. Collaborates with the professional nurse directing the patient's care to assist in establishing a patient assessment focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive functions. Functions as a resource person in the education and counseling of wound and ostomy care to patient's significant others to assist in meeting their learning and emotional needs The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above: Develops new practices, clinical programs, and systems necessary to support changing patient care needs. Participates in the development and review of patient care standards, protocols and guidelines. Monitors utilization of supplies and equipment for treatment of wound and ostomy care based on evidence-based research and established standards for equipment and facilities. Participates in appropriate professional and community organizations. Functions as a patient advocate. Participates in peer review activities identifying learning needs of practice related issues to enhance patient outcomes.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse, issued by the PA State Board of Nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing BSN or higher-level nursing degree is required. National certification by the Wound Ostomy, Continence Nursing Certification Board WOCNCB or completion of the certification program within six 6 months of hire. A health care provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid and other federal and state health insurance programs, i.e. not excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid or any other federal or state health insurance program.'
Preferred Qualifications:
Two 2 years of experience in a clinically related field. Previous experience leading support groups counseling.
