School-Based Nurse Job Description
GENERAL OVERVIEW
Provide first-line health care at school to students and staff, and administers medications to students during academic school year (~172 days). This role will also involve liaising with external partners during the school day to provide a comprehensive whole-child, whole-family approach to student health
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Administers prescribed medication to students, following the established protocol by the school district. Administers first aid treatment in a safe and timely fashion, under guidelines established by the school district. Maintains policy on the exclusion and readmission of students in connection with communicable diseases. Establishes and maintains open and effective communication with all personnel affecting student health services. Conduct yearly health office screenings, school testing and evaluations such as vision and hearing testing, and tuberculin skin testing. Fulfill clerical duties such as entering immunization or other health information for students in designated school district logs Maintain daily attendance, type correspondence, maintain files and records, prepare and distribute reports Additional Responsibilities/Services for comprehensive school-based health and wellness
- Mental health screenings (PHQ-2, PHQ-9, GAD-7)
- As requested by school, coordinate with school counselor/social worker/community school team to facilitate warm referrals to necessary health and social services
- Triage health needs of incoming students to determine if telehealth video visit with local partner could minimize lost instructional time
- (Optional) Facilitate Sports physicals (including via mobile clinic visits from outside partners)
- Support partnerships with other external school partners (e.
g. vision, hearing, dental vans, etc.)
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Nursing School Diploma Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate Current State of PA RN licensure OR Current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). CPR certification Preferred BA/BS Degree Recent medical/surgical experience, emergency medicine experience School nursing experience
Pay:
$50.01 - $55.03 per hour
