GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Also directs and guides patient teaching, activities or nursing and ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. Surgical Services nurses provide care and support to the patient and his/her caregivers to ensure desired patient outcomes.
JOB DUTIES
Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialist as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care. Demonstrates ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and caregiver(s) regarding pain management. Participates in discharge plan using all available resources and identifies need for care at home or alternative such as outpatient treatment, extended care facility, etc. Performs essential unit specific competencies related to clinical and technical aspects of patient care with skill and accuracy based on the unit specific policies and procedures. Performs point of care testing(POCT), including testing, documentation, and quality control with skill and accuracy as directed by the medical director of laboratory services in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements. Intervenes with proper technique, procedure and safety precautions to meet individual needs of patients. Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient an his/her clinical conditions Documents nursing intervention, patient response, effectiveness, compilations, etc.
Work/Education Requirements:
Currently licensed a registered professional nurse in Pennsylvania (or eligible) 2 years of nursing experience; previous surgery experience preferred ACLS, PALS and BLS certifications
