Job Description

The Wyatt Detention Facility is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse (3rd shift) to work in its Health Services Unit to provide compassionate clinical care to incarcerated individuals.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of all clinical coordinators, provide leadership in the organization of direct medical care to incarcerated individuals. Candidate shall act as a team leader to supervise and evaluate the nursing care administered by licensed practical nurses and other support staff according to their scope of practice and competence.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Although it is not possible to provide an exhaustive list of all types of duties, responsibilities and performance standards, the following are the essential job functions: Implements and documents nursing interventions as per the MD or NP written or verbal orders and in accordance with nursing theory and protocols. Provides on-going assessment and evaluation of detainee status at specified times to determine effectiveness of interventions, response to treatment, outcome and/or when significant changes occur in detainee condition. Assess, identify and provide education and training to detainees and staff to improve knowledge of healthy behavior and or prevent unhealthy habits. Provide consistent leadership in organizing the delivery of care according to department standards and protocols, including identification of areas that need revision or improvement. Maintain commitment and responsibility for professional growth and competency through on-going activities that promote a professional accurate knowledge base. Must complete nursing assessment of detainees in a timely manner, including triage and prioritizing the needs and requests of the detainee population. Attends department meetings, staff development seminars and mandatory in-services as requested or as needed. Supervision and assistance to licensed practical nurses and other medical or security staff that work in or support the health service department. Possesses the physical and mental ability to respond well to a stressful situation and environment. Ability to establish a rapport and deal professionally with detainees from a variety of different ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds. Adheres to safety and security policies and participation in disaster drills. Ability to plant and read PPD plants. Knowledge of model and application of emergency medical procedures such as CPR, including the operation of an automatic external defibrillator. Knowledge of chronic diseases such as HIV, diabetes, and hepatitis, including medications used to treat, as well as monitoring such diseases according to policies and protocols. Perform med-line when needed. Perform any other duties as requested by Director of Nursing, Health Service Administrator or Medical Director.
