Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a compassionate and attentive Summer Camp Nurse to join our team for an unforgettable summer camp season. The Summer Camp Nurse plays a critical role in promoting the health and safety of all campers and staff. Responsibilities include providing first aid, managing daily medications, responding to health concerns, and maintaining a clean and organized health center. The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, enjoys working with children, and is committed to creating a safe, supportive camp environment.
Qualifications:
Camp Nurse must be at least 21 years old and must be a Rhode Island licensed Registered Nurse or become licensed in Rhode Island. Must be able to pass a national background check. Must have a current Registered Nurse license (or higher) valid in the state of Rhode Island from at least the first to the last day of service. Must be able to relate effectively to children, parents, college-age staff, and adult volunteers of all ages. Must have the ability to treat sensitive situations with discretion, including confidential information pertaining to camper, staff, and volunteer safety and health.
Physical Requirements:
Regular lifting of medical supplies, medications, and patient supplies, frequently weighing up to 25lbs Traverse rough outdoor terrain, including at night, with aid of a flashlight Standing and walking to patients, walking may occur on dirt roads, fields, or trails Visual acuity and hearing within the normal range to observe patients, read medical information, prepare and administer medications and perform physical assessments of patients, including subtle changes in color Must have fine motor skills and tactile sensation of all fingers and be able to grasp and control medical equipment, prepare handwritten reports, and palpate with fingers and hands, and distinguish between warm/cold
Working Conditions:
Camp Nurse must be able to work outside in Rhode Island summer conditions without access to air conditioning.
Expectations:
The Camp Nurse is the health care provider for all campers and staff and is an essential member of the Aldersgate staff team. Responsibilities include providing first aid care for campers and staff (paid and volunteer), overseeing the administration of medications to campers and staff, communicating with parents and/or physicians when necessary, monitoring health and cleanliness standards, organizing paperwork and maintaining file organization. The Camp Nurse works closely with the Executive Director, Assistant Director, and other leadership staff.
Responsibilities:
Live out the mission of Aldersgate Ensure a safe space for campers, volunteers, and staff to live as God created them to be Model appropriate behavior, including appropriate boundaries with campers, parents, volunteers, and other staff Recognize, follow, and implement camp policies and procedures Train summer staff on health procedures and emergency procedures (ex., EpiPen) Inspect and maintain all first-aid kits Provide weekly health checks at camper check-in on Sundays Attend to illnesses of both camper and staff per written protocols Work within written protocols and scope of practice. Actively seek out definition from the Camp Physician whenever necessary Administer both over-the-counter and prescription medications to campers and staff per written protocol at appropriate times Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of medication administration, as well as illness and injury care delivered to camper and staff Report illness, injury, or abuse to Executive Director and/or proper authorities Maintain a watchful presence to the overall wellness of campers and staff Work directly with the Camp Physician, EMS, fire department, walk-in clinic, and/or hospital by phone when needed to attend to an illness or injury of a camper or staff Attend meals at the dining hall whenever possible Maintain cleanliness and order within the health office and infirmary Manage infirmary inventory/ordering before and throughout the summer Follow up to make sure all accident/incident reports have been properly filed by staff
