TITLE Staff Development Coordinator•
RN LOCATION
Richard M. Campbell Veterans HomeDESCRIPTION
Purpose To plan, organize, develop, and direct in-service educational programs throughout the facility in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care can be maintained at all times. Essential Functions Incorporate commercially produced instruction material and training aids into existing in-service programs as deemed necessary. Provide leadership in formulating the goals and objectives of the in-service educational programs of this facility. Develop, evaluate and control the quality of in-service educational programs in accordance with established policies and procedures Secure, develop and maintain records, reports, instructional manuals, reference materials, etc., pertinent to in-service educational programs. Assist department directors in obtaining and scheduling of speakers to present in-service training programs. Ensure that in-service training classrooms are properly prepared before training begins. Develop, direct and schedule refresher training, as necessary, for assigned staff and licensed professional personnel. Remain current on new developments by attending professional institutions, reading professional journals and attending professional seminars. Attend and participate in your professional associations activities and programs, etc., to assure that you keep abreast of current regulations and guidelines, as well as professional standards, and make recommendations on changes in policies and procedures to the Administrator. Develop and participate in the planning, conducting, and scheduling of orientation programs that orient newly hired personnel to their position, the facility's policies and procedures, resident rights and responsibilities, etc. Assist licensed nursing personnel (i.e., RNs, LPNs ) in obtaining in-service training to keep their license current in accordance with state law. Provide in-service training as necessary/required. Ensure that all personnel attend and participate in annual OSHA and CDC in-service training programs for hazard communication, TB management, and blood-borne pathogens standard. Ensure that copies of lesson plans, instructor's qualifications, etc., are filed in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures. Meet with department supervisors on a regularly scheduled basis and solicit advice concerning their training needs. Assist in identifying and correcting problem areas. Schedule in-service training programs according to the needs of each department. Ensure that individual employee training records are maintained and filed in the employee's personnel record. Provide ongoing electronic health record training. Performs other related assignments as required. Work Schedule As assigned, including some week-ends, evenings and Holidays. Working Conditions Works in well-lighted/ventilated areas. Most of the work is performed indoors Is subject to frequent interruptions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies, etc., under all conditions and circumstances. Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc. Communicates with the medical staff, nursing staff, and other department supervisors. Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary. May be exposed to bodily fluids, infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including the AIDS and hepatitis B viruses. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; implements or office equipment; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Collect information through observation, listening, touching, and smelling. Must have auditory ability sufficient to monitor and assess Job requires regular sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, writing, and carrying charts, food, trays, etc. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Employee may be required to move chairs, beds, and medical equipment, move patients in bed (with or without assistance). Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the residents, personnel, and support agencies. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility. May be required to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, etc., in excess of fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents. Safety, Sanitation and Infection Controls Assure the assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe and sanitary manner. Assure that established infection control and universal precautions practices are observed. Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to your supervisor. Follow established safety policies and procedures. Dispose of refuse daily in accordance with established sanitation procedures. Keep work/assignment areas free of hazardous objects, unnecessary equipment, supplies, etc. Report any accident/incident to your supervisor no matter how minor.POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved RN program. Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN in this state. Must have, as a minimum, one years' experience in a health related facility. Must have experience in supervision and principles, practice of teaching, etc. Must possess creativity, integrity, and initiative. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public. Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel. Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing training practices. Must possess the ability to plan and develop new programs. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents and staff. Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition. Must possess strong computer skills and be able to train staff on electronic medical records. SHIFT- not applicable
