  • obtaining consent, authorization and treatment teaching.
Completes assessment (via telephone or in person) of patients presenting problems, questions and concerns, test results and triage accordingly to provide a response in a timely manner. Communicates effectively, recognizing underlying issues and provides appropriate guidance to patients as appropriate. Works in partnership with the new patient scheduling team and Oncology nurse navigators to ensure patients are provided appointments in a timely manner according to the practice standards and priorities accordingly. The Oncology Clinic Nurse will perform other duties as needed
  • scheduling/coordinating appointments, managing medication prescriptions and refills, etc.
What you will do Responds to all Oncology Clinic Nurse Pool and patient MyChart messages in EPIC in a timely manner. Documents all clinical interactions with patients in Epic Utilizes resources and guidelines to effectively assess, prioritize and advise patients, makes urgent patient appointments or refers patients to the Emergency Department, as needed Effectively educates patients on their disease, treatment options and symptom management Works independently and communicates problem resolution and change in care plans with the clinical teams as appropriate Assists with completing various documents for patients such as FMLA & disability forms, handicap stickers, etc Establish professional working relationships with oncologists, advance practice providers and community physicians Develops and maintains understanding of community resources for oncology patients to assist with referrals, as appropriate. Refers patients to supportive care services such as social work, nutrition services, genetic counseling and patient financial counseling as needed Participates in the education of administrative and clinical staff Remains clinically informed and abreast of current trends, treatment regimens, side effects, symptom management, procedures and the latest technological advances through attendance at tumor boards, conferences, seminars and workshops Keeps Nurse manager informed of questions, problems and concerns from patients and care team members Participates in morning huddle to ensure maintain awareness of patient related issues and concerns Participates in the peer interview team for the department and makes recommendations concerning hiring decisions Initiates verge reports for patient safety related issues and concerns, participates in issue investigation and resolution as appropriate Education Qualifications BSN Required Experience Qualifications Three to five years of experience as a professional nurse with progressively more responsibility/experience in appropriate oncology specialty area Required Two years of previous oncology clinic, chemotherapy and/or patient triage experience managing high-risk and complex patient Preferred Experience with oncology specialty pharmacies Preferred Prior experience with electronic medical record systems (EPIC preferred) Required Skills and Abilities Knowledge of organization and operation of outpatient oncology clinic with knowledge of nursing care techniques and methods Works with patients, families, associate nurses, physicians, and other health care providers Able to remain calm in difficult situations Leadership skills to support ongoing positive dialogue with all members of the clinical team and patients Comprehensive understanding of cancer diagnoses, treatments, symptom management, and patient education Demonstrate professional oral and written communication skills Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse
  • South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Required Oncology Certified Nurse
  • Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation within 24 months from the start date of employment or transfer into job with Tidelands Health Required Basic Life Support Certified
