1 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 12-hour night shift position in a high-acuity, mixed ICU setting requiring Epic proficiency and TNCC certification. Details Work in a 39-bed mixed ICU (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU) divided into specialized pods within a hospital setting Patient population includes complex medical, surgical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases, with diagnoses such as ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma Cardiac experience is preferred, including
CABG/TAVR
post-op (24-48 hours); fresh open-heart cases are not assigned to travelers unless they have verified experience Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1 or 1:2, with 1:3 occurring rarely based on acuity Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell also in use 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week Every-other-weekend rotation is the target, though not guaranteed No on-call requirements Floating is uncommon but possible to adult med/surg or tele floors at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed Requirements Active RN license in South Dakota (SD) or a Compact state required Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start if not currently held) Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel assignments, strongly preferred; candidates with at least 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered Epic EMR experience required Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic line management; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry monitoring Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration DOB and SSN required for consideration Additional Information First-time travelers are not eligible; a minimum of one prior completed travel assignment is required Former permanent staff must wait at least 1 year before returning to this facility as a traveler Unit support includes 1-2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, and physician coverage including 3 intensivists on days and 2 on nights plus an APP on nights Orientation includes hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation session, one 4-hour iLearns completion session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts May occasionally be expected to precept nursing students No RTO approved during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first three weeks of August); up to 7 days of time off may be approved otherwise, with the requirement that any extension accommodates a full 13-week contract Scrub color: Navy Free parking is available on-site
