ABOUT THE ROLE
Correctional Medical Management is looking for a Registered Nurse to join our day shift team at the Minnehaha County Jail. You will deliver hands-on clinical care — from chronic disease management to emergency response — to an underserved population that rarely receives quality healthcare elsewhere. You will work alongside a committed nursing team and correctional officers in a structured, predictable environment that lets you grow professionally without the chaos of a traditional ER or hospital floor. This is not a desk job. You will use your full skill set every day, make independent clinical decisions, and leave each shift knowing you made a real difference.
IS THIS YOU?
You want a consistent schedule — days only, no rotating nights. You value autonomy and trust your clinical judgment. You find meaning in caring for patients who are often overlooked by the healthcare system. You thrive in a team environment with clear structure and reliable coworkers. You communicate clearly, stay calm under pressure, and own your work.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Provide direct nursing care to incarcerated patients Administer medications and obtain diagnostic tests Perform assessments and deliver health education Respond to medical emergencies Manage acute and chronic health conditions, adjusting care plans as needed Evaluate patient behaviors, symptoms, and responses to medications and treatments Assist with medical or minor surgical procedures Prepare and maintain accurate records, charts, and reports Build and sustain professional relationships with patients, staff, and the public
WHY SWITCH TO CORRECTIONAL NURSING?
Some nurses are ready for something different — a role where the schedule is consistent, the team is stable, and the work is genuinely meaningful. Correctional nursing offers full clinical engagement with a population that has real, complex healthcare needs and limited access to care. You'll use your skills every shift, make independent decisions, and see the impact of your work firsthand. If you're looking for purpose, autonomy, and a schedule you can actually plan around, this is worth a closer look.
BENEFITS
Health, dental, and vision insurance Disability and life insurance Company-matched 401(k) retirement plan Flex spending accounts Paid time off Rotating holidays Incentive pay opportunities
