Registered Nurse:
Weekend Charge Nurse Is responsible for the total nursing care of residents during his/her shift. Is able to recognize significant changes in the condition of residents and take necessary action. Supervises direct resident care personnel on his/her unit. Sees that the nursing care plan is followed. Prepares and administers all medications. Administers all prescribed treatments if treatment nurse is unavailable. Supervises serving of prescribed diets and fluid intake, takes note of deviations from normal and reports persistent unresolved problems to the physician. See that all medications and treatments are charted according to the procedure of the nursing facility. Protects residents from accident and injury. Prepares incident/accident reports. Sees that residents are clean and well groomed. Does charting on his/her shift. Sees that clinical records or an abstract of them are forwarded with transfer of residents. Sees that drugs covered by Controlled Substances Act of 1970 are verifiable by inventory. Participates in regular staff meetings and inservices. Consults with DON, Administrator and/or Manager when necessary. Perform any other duties you may be assigned.
Functions related to nursing personnel:
Sees that all nursing personnel are oriented to the duties assigned to them. Assigns personnel according to the policy outlined by nursing services. Stimulates interest and attitudes in personnel to develop understanding of residents, and encourage health and rehabilitation teaching. Checks time schedules and notifies responsible person if adequate personnel in not on duty. Functions related to position of leadership: Assists with orientation and educational programs for nursing personnel as requested. Attends staff meetings and inservices. Supervises nursing personnel on his/her shift. Keeps the DON, Administrator and/or Manager informed of staff or supply problems and assists with their solutions when required.
Functions related to reporting:
Be on duty at beginning of shift and punch time card, then report to your assigned area and begin work. Report to relief nurse before going off duty, punch time card and leave facility. In the event of illness or other reasons for absenteeism, report to person on call in ample time to allow arrangements to be made for performance of duties.' '
