Position Summary The School Nurse supports the mission of the school by promoting the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff in a Christ-centered educational environment. The School Nurse provides professional nursing care, health assessments, first aid, emergency response, and health education while maintaining compliance with state regulations and school policies. This position works collaboratively with parents, faculty, administrators, and healthcare providers to ensure students are physically prepared to learn and thrive. The school nurse is a core contributor to campus safety because they operate at the intersection of medical response, risk mitigation, student well-being, and crisis coordination. The School Nurse demonstrates compassion, professionalism, and a commitment to Christian values in all interactions, serving as a positive role model and supporting the spiritual, emotional, and physical development of students. The nurse maintains accurate health records, administers medications as authorized, develops health care plans for students with medical needs, and promotes a safe and healthy school environment consistent with the CCA's mission. Key Role Responsibilities Student Health Services and Care Establish, review, and maintain school health services programs. Provide medical care and health services to students and staff. Monitor students with ongoing health conditions and develop appropriate care plans. Administer medications according to school policies and procedures. Establish protocols for assessing and referring students with mental health concerns. Refer students to physicians or healthcare providers for further evaluation when appropriate. Communicate with parents regarding student health concerns and needs. Collaborate with administrators, faculty, staff, parents, and volunteers regarding student health and wellness. Maintain relationships with healthcare professionals and community resources to support student health needs. Health Compliance, Records, and Reporting Maintain accurate health records and documentation in FACTS. Evaluate, maintain, and report state mandated immunization records. Implement mandatory screening programs and complete all required reports. Schedule and coordinate hearing, vision, spinal, and Acanthosis screenings. Document all medications dispensed and procedures administered during the school day. Complete Accident Reports for significant student injuries. Monitor and report contagious illnesses and advise administration regarding health trends and outbreaks. Notify parents regarding contagious illnesses and health concerns affecting the school community. Research emerging health issues and communicate relevant information as needed. Assist in reporting suspected abuse or neglect in accordance with school policy and legal requirements. Campus Health, Safety, and Emergency Preparedness Establish and review schoolwide health and medical procedures. Coordinate emergency preparedness procedures and respond appropriately to accidents, illnesses, and behavioral incidents. Maintain and monitor AED equipment. Provide and maintain clinic supplies, first aid kits, and field trip medical resources. Implement required cleaning and sanitization procedures. Check students for lice, manage outbreaks, and communicate treatment procedures to families. Ensure compliance with all school policies, health regulations, and safety procedures. Training, Leadership, and Program Administration Provide CPR, AED, and first aid training for faculty and staff. Train employees regarding student-specific health needs and accommodations. Assist with budgeting, purchasing, and stewardship of clinic resources. Maintain efficient and effective health services operations. Serve as a resource to faculty, staff, students, and families on health and wellness matters.
