Job Description

Description Performs the primary duties of a professional nurse in assessing, planning, directing, and evaluating patient care in the Emergency Department areas. Manages supplies, and equipment, and supervises personnel in the areas and promotes team efforts with physicians and personnel of other departments. Requirements
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
: A.
Education:
Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing. Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred. B.
Personal Job-Related Skills:
Demonstrated ability in nursing practice. Requires effective oral and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred. C.
Licensure, Registry or Certification:
Current RN licensure by the State of Texas. BLS, ACLS and PALS required. TNCC required within 1 year. D.
Experience:

Prior Work Experience:
Two years experience as a professional Registered Nurse in a Emergency Department area is preferred. E.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Extended periods of standing and walking. 2. Bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and pulling when providing patient care. 3. Lifting and/or moving more than 100 pounds when moving or supporting patients who may suddenly become weak or helpless. 4. Visual acuity required is close, distance, color, and the ability to adjust focus. 5. Talking, hearing and the ability to read and interpret instructions when communicating with patients, their families, co-workers and other staff members. 6. The ability to hear alarms on equipment, patient call systems and instructions from physicians, staff, patients and visitors. 7. Exposure to all patient elements including stressful emergency situations. The work environment noise level is moderate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This is not an all-inclusive list of duties; however, it is a general description of the Regular duties of the Emergency Room Nurse. 1. Provide general and emergent nursing care to the patients in accordance to nursing standards. 2. Assess and triage patients based on acuity and assist other emergency department team members as needed. 3. Participates in Performance and Process Improvement for Department 4. Direct and guide LVN's and other personnel to assist with care of patients within their scope of practice. 5. Administer prescribed medications and treatments and document all medications and treatments as ordered. 6. Facilitates admission and transfers both intra-hospital and with outlying facilities. 7. Collaborates with physicians, nursing staff and other ancillary departments regarding the treatment and care of all patients. 8. Orders, stock and ensures supplies are current within the department. 9. Float to other nursing departments to assist during increased census or emergency situations and perform basic nursing duties.
