Join us! Job Summary and Qualifications The Lactation Consultant is a Registered Nurse who champions and serves as an expert consultant for the facility's Breastfeeding Program. The primary focus of this role is facilitating the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding by providing education and assistance to our patients. Additionally, this RN Specialist will train and collaborate with the maternal nursing staff in order to provide consistent and accurate information to new mothers. You collaborate with all other healthcare disciplines to achieve successful execution of the patient's plan-of-care. You will have the ability to function in the role of labor and delivery nurse when the lactation census is low and help with department staffing needs. You consider the developmental goals for infant, toddler, preschool, school age, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients during the assessment of patients. You will provide outpatient education and support for expectant and new parents. You will conduct classes that impart information encompassing breastfeeding according to the stated objectives and content for each topic. You will orient new employees of Women's Services to SDGH's Lactation Department, as appropriate .
Education and Experience:
Associate's Degree in Nursing
- required Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred 1+ year of nursing experience in Labor and Delivery
- required 2 years' experience as a lactation educator in an inpatient setting

Current Texas RN License or a Compact RN license from a NCLA Compact State required . New hires have 90 days from start date to obtain Texas RN License Current BLS certification required NRP
