Full-Time One 8 hour shift during the week (M-F) and then Saturday and Sunday 7am-7pm The Operating Room at University Medical Center has 21 operating rooms. The first hybrid suite at UMC was opened in December 2015 and specializes in endovascular surgery. The first robot was purchased for UMC in 2014, and close to 300 robotic surgeries are performed each year. In 2019, the OR purchased the first robot specifically for neurological surgeries. In total, UMC OR performs around 16,000 cases per year and with over 250 employees, the OR is one of the largest departments at UMC. Nursing orientation for the OR is an extensive, 6 months, depending on previous experience, and produces highly skilled OR nurses. Our nurses are trained in all aspects of the perioperative phase and work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and ancillary staff. Registered professional nurse who assesses, implements or delegates, plans, and evaluates total nursing care and functions in accordance with established philosophy, providing and directing patient care for a group of patients. Relates effectively with other shifts/departments for optimal continuity of care. Gives professional nursing care to patients and provides supervision and guidance to the members of the nursing staff at least 50% of the time. Has experience in general nursing and a working knowledge of organizational and nursing policies. Knows clinical and nursing standards and practices in accordance with the nursing scope and standards of practice (ANA, 2010). Special interest in scientific and technical activities for understanding and responding to nursing problems and concepts. All nurses will be required to show current knowledge and clinical competence of the special skills required to give quality care to patients on their unit. Age specific knowledge is required when needed for appropriate patients' care.
Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing Valid Texas RN License/Eligible Compact License Must maintain a current
BLS & ACLS
certification from American Heart Association BSN required or must earn within 3 years.
