JOB SUMMARY
Provides direct and indirect patient care within the RN scope of practice. Provide care to patients based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Performs general nursing duties in all departments with appropriate supervision. Immediately supervised by Flow Facilitator. Reports to Emergency Department Director. Non-Exempt position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs Registered Nurse duties within the RN scope of practice. Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other healthcare team members as required, and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal medical and/or trauma care of the patient. Communicates with physicians/flow facilitator/coworkers, as appropriate, about changes in patient's clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptoms. Responsible for reassessments in all aspects of patient care. Monitors hemodynamic status of patient and interprets data. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Monitors cardiac patients, identifies dysrhythmias and treats patients based on ACLS protocols as applicable. Triage patients coming to the emergency department and assumes patient care as assigned Assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills. Interprets data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group. Gives and receives comprehensive report on assigned patients and delivers prompt, accurate, and safe nursing care. Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, including family in teaching, as appropriate. Ensures all labs, x-rays, and other reports are completed timely, reviewed and reported to physician as necessary. Informs Flow Facilitator of changes in patient condition and confers with Flow Facilitator to determine need before speaking to the physician. Addresses patient and family concerns and directs concerns to Flow Facilitator, Director, House Supervisor and/or patient advocate, as needed. Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, medications, treatments, responses, and assessment of change. Notes and enters documentation as required. Provide an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs. Ensures adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment. As preceptor, may lead one or more employees performing similar work; supervise temporary employees; trains new employees; allocates and monitors work of others. Responds to code blue and other emergencies as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education Current Texas Registered Nurse License required. Current BLS for healthcare professionals required at time of hire. TNCC required within one year of hire.
ACLS & PALS
(or ENPC) certification preferred. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and STABLE certification preferred. Basic Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Collection Course Required within 2 years. Required Skills Must possess superior ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service. Must possess high degree of organization and be able to multi-task efficiently and effectively. Advanced computer knowledge required, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook.
FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS
Functional Job Requirements Job requirements include, but are not limited to: sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, squatting and reaching. Requires good finger dexterity, repetitive motions with hands and fingers. Requires ability to have good vision and hearing. Pushing and pulling equipment may be necessary. Lifting Requirements Job requires heavy lifting on an occasional basis.
