Job Description
A Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) Registered Nurse evaluates and prepares patients for scheduled surgical or procedural interventions. They conduct physical assessments, review medical histories. The RN educates patients and ensures all clinical and administrative requirements are met to prevent day-of-surgery delays. Periodically this role will work in Pre OP/Recovery to support team and patient care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PAT RN
Patient Assessment:
Conduct comprehensive pre-operative phone interviews to collect medical histories, medication lists, and identify potential surgical or anesthesia risks
Pre-Op Education:
Teach patients about pre-surgical protocols (such as NPO status, which medications to hold) what to expect during their visit, and basic post-operative care plans Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologist, and physicians to ensure patients are medical optimized and that all necessary clearances are in the chart. Verify surgical consents, medical records and medication reconciliation in the EHR system prior to procedure date Assesses, develops and implements total nursing care for the pre-operative and post-operative patients Administer medications and treatments ordered by the physician. Cares and discharges pre-operative patients according to facility policies
