RN Clinical Coordinator - ICU (NIGHTS) Chesapeake Regional Medical Center - 2.9 Chesapeake, VA Job Details 6 hours ago Qualifications RN License Full Job Description Summary The RN, Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the maintenance and coordination of quality patient care on a continuing basis while under the guidance and direction of the Nurse Manager. The Clinical Coordinator practices within the guidelines of the Nursing Care standards and hospital policies and procedures, and functions as the Charge Nurse for the designated unit. Additionally, the Clinical Coordinator manages staff training in conjunction with the assigned Nurse Educator, and provides administrative coverage for the Nurse Manager in his/her absence. Essential Duties and Responsibilities These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned. Direct and supervise patient care during assigned shifts Make rounds on all patients to ensure that current clinical patient care standards are being met Analyze shift workload to determine the number of employees needed to ensure adequate staffing Proactively pursue coverage for call-ins and unexpected staffing needs in conjunction with the Nurse Manager Coordinate patient transfers, admissions, and discharges in a timely manner to ensure effective patient throughput Make bed allocations and patient assignments according to staff's documented and demonstrated competence Adjust workload to meet the needs of the patient and unit Consult with and keep the Nurse Manager informed of unit activities, needs, and problems Facilitate the daily operations and workflow on assigned areas Organize and reprioritize work based on staff needs, patient needs, available resources, and unit requirements Demonstrate efficiency in verifying orders Demonstrate consistent ability/competence in patient care areas Actively solicit feedback from patients and visitors Function independently with most procedures/protocols, except for those which require the assistance of a physician Recognize limitations and seek the appropriate assistance when needed Demonstrate an ability to respond in a timely and effective manner to emergency situations Collaborate with the Nurse Manager, making recommendations for transfers, promotions, and the Identification of areas requiring staff development Establish and maintain a collaborative relationship with the off-tour supervisor to foster problem-solving activities Foster a spirit of teamwork within assigned area(s) Make immediate administrative decisions as necessary in the absence of the Nurse Manager Assign preceptors for departmental new hires Monitor the progress of all new hires within the department Assess team members clinical competency through observation, testing, return demonstration and evaluation of the occurrences of variances to standards of care Serve as a mentor and resource to students, new hires, LPNs, floating/flexi nurses, and unlicensed personnel Provide feedback regarding employee performance and clinical experience to the Nurse Manager and employee Coordinate necessary staff development and unit-based educational needs utilizing the Clinical Nurse Educator Assist the Nurse Manager in the role Chief Retention Officer Consistently monitor and evaluate staff performance in accordance with established standards Demonstrate the ability to ensure compliance with policies and procedures Implement a unit structure and process that is conductive to teamwork, encourages communication, and supports participative management Follow all administrative protocols Proactively deal with conflicts in a timely manner Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services. 2+ years' experience in a specialized area with Charge Nurse or equivalent supervisory experience Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Applicant must be licensed to work as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and certified in BLS, ACLS, or the equivalent.
