In addition to Nurse (RN) school-based responsibilities, the Nurse Coordinator will provide leadership to division nurses by communicating expectations, providing feedback, and making decisions based on professional knowledge. Work with the director of student services and the director of human resources regarding various student and staff health issues.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks: All essential functions/typical tasks of the school-based Nurse (RN); Schedule monthly nurse team meetings, providing an advanced agenda, and minutes for each meeting; Update as needed a manual for school nurses detailing professional roles, responsibilities, policies, procedures, and protocols; Work with school nurses to maintain a student health database for tracking significant health trends; Assure consistent policies, procedures, protocols, and practices within the health services of the school division; Research health issues and appropriate medical protocols to share with various stakeholders as needed; Provide medical advice to nurse team members and administrators when requested and work to develop student health plans, resolve student medical care issues and concerns as they occur; Collect and disseminate pertinent information from the Virginia Department of Education, Virginia Department of Health, and The Centers for Disease Control; Work with school nurses to maintain effective communication with students' parents and physicians; Review communication logs as part of the nurse evaluation; Work with school nurses to improve identified students' acquisition and utilization of eyeglasses or hearing aids; Work with school nurses to update medical alerts in PowerSchool; Manage the school division health services budget; Order supplies, medicines, and equipment, staying with the allotted budget; Maintain accurate records of supply orders, inventories on hand, and quantities distributed to individual clinics; Assist in the hiring of school nurses by serving on interview panels with principals, providing information to the panel on candidates' knowledge of nursing; Provide effective initial training and mentoring for new nurses or for any nurse experiencing difficulties; Complete clinic observations to evaluate the nurses in their work with students, adherence to appropriate medical protocols and health plans, inspect school clinics for cleanliness, proper storage of medicines, use of equipment, and organization; Effectively assess the strengths and areas of improvement in the performance of each nurse and provide feedback to the nurse. Provide observations and evaluations and other pertinent data to school principals for use in his/her evaluation of their nurse; Work collaboratively with principals and the Executive Director of Student Services to investigate and resolve personnel concerns within the nursing staff; Provide health-related staff development for school nurses, selected administrators, teachers, transportation personnel, custodians, and other appropriate staff to include monthly topical nurse in-services; CPR and AED certifications; diabetes management; blood-borne pathogens; allergy and asthma treatments; influenza and communicable disease prevention; and Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Director of Special Education; and Performs other assignedMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK
Persons employed as a Registered Nurse / Nurse Coordinator by Culpeper County Public Schools shall: Have a Registered Nurse license as required by the State of Virginia; 3-5 years' experience in clinical, community, or school setting; Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; Must possess an RN or a BSN.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to demonstrates professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions within the school and within the community. Ability to participate in professional development activities to meet the needs of the school system's health program. Ability to maintain good working relationships with all employees and the public. Ability to communicate openly and effectively with students, parents, community patrons, staff, and administration as a positive representative of Culpeper County School system. Skill in the proper use of the English language. Other such qualifications as they relate to the assigned duties.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is typically performed in all schools throughout the division. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 40 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Travel to schools throughout the division and central office is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work environment exposes the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members, administrators, and parents is required. Contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary. Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all CCPS employees. To ensure adequate staffing, positive employee morale, and to meet expected productivity standards throughout the organization, employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.EVALUATION
