Surgical Clinic/OR RN Job type: PT 30+Job Summary:
The Surgical Clinic/OR RN provides high-quality patient care in both ambulatory clinic and surgical settings, addressing psychosocial and physical needs of patients. This role includes direct patient care, surgical site assessments, and coordination with surgical and anesthesia teams. The RN also functions as a liaison and educator, supporting both patients and staff. Operating room experience is essential, with responsibilities including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care, instrument management, and adherence to aseptic techniques. The ideal candidate demonstrates initiative, professionalism, and adaptability, with strong communication skills aligned with the mission and values of Bath Community Hospital. This position also supports quality improvement efforts and ensures compliance with regulatory standards.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide direct patient care in both the ambulatory clinic and operating room settings. Assess surgical sites and wounds to ensure appropriate follow-up care. Prepare for and assist during surgical procedures, ensuring proper sterile technique. Manage surgical instruments, including cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and disposal as appropriate. Perform preoperative assessments and postoperative monitoring across patient populations, including pediatrics, geriatrics, and general adult. Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and nursing staff to coordinate comprehensive patient care. Educate patients and families on surgical procedures, recovery, medications, and follow-up care. Participate in preauthorization processes for surgeries. Demonstrate knowledge of surgical conditions, diseases, medications, and appropriate interventions. Identify and respond to changes in patient conditions with sound clinical judgment. Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members and maintain positive working relationships. Ensure adherence to infection control guidelines and use of personal protective equipment. Collect and report quality measures to the Director of Quality as required. Maintain documentation according to hospital standards and regulatory requirements. Support departmental and hospital-wide meetings, training, and continuous quality improvement activities.Qualifications:
Required:
Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Virginia Current BLS Certification Minimum of one year of Operating Room experiencePreferred:
Experience in Ambulatory Surgery and Endoscopy Knowledge of moderate sedation and central sterile processing Familiarity with surgical preauthorization and EMR documentationWork Environment:
This position requires regular exposure to clinical settings, including operating rooms, ambulatory clinics, and sterile processing areas. The role involves contact with patients who may have infectious diseases and requires strict adherence to infection control protocols and PPE usage. May be exposed to biological, chemical, and mechanical hazards commonly found in surgical environments. Duties may involve standing, walking, and lifting equipment or patients for extended periods. Must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations and remain calm under pressure. Work may include exposure to temperature fluctuations, bright lights, and noise typically found in ORs. Occasional extended or flexible hours may be required, including evenings or weekends, based on surgical schedules and patient needs.Core Values:
