Summary:
Functions:
The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for the provision of nursing care for assigned patients within the established standards of evidence-based practice and organizational policy and procedures. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously within the scope of professional standards and the rules and regulations established by the VA State Board of Nursing. The RN provides patient care that is appropriate to age and developmental level of assigned patients. The RN appropriately delegates care provision to other members of the nursing care team consistent with role, licensure and scope of practice. Responsible and accountable for the care of assigned patients and assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the care of the patient, performs RN duties as assigned, and effectively communicates with patients, the public, physicians, and other hospital personnel. Performs nursing assessments and delivers care as an integral part of the care team. Works toward favorable outcomes while delivering safe high-quality healthcare. Accurately reports and documents in the Electronic Medical Record and electronic documentation systems that support the RN's clinical and team member role. He/she has a working knowledge of the nursing process and demonstrates skill in developing and guiding collaborative collegial practice that delivers safe competent care. He/she demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of the diverse cultural backgrounds of our patients and caregivers. The position involves maintaining current clinical knowledge and competency for skills related to the clinical RN role where assigned. Demonstrates the ability to use critical thinking skills in the implementation of all phases of the nursing process. He/she actively participates in patient care quality and performance improvement through data collection and aggregation as assigned. The RN serves as a professional role model as a caregiver, mentor, teacher and resource for students, peers and other providers on the health care team. Must be able to wear a respirator mask and other personal protective apparel as indicated in the provision of patient care. Med Surg/Peds- The Med Surg/Pediatric nurse will demonstrate the above functions. The patient population served by this position includes pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Emergency Life Support Training per organizational protocols. ICU
- The ICU nurse will demonstrate the above functions. The care provided to each patient is specific to the patient's particular physical, age-specific and psychosocial needs. The patient population served by this position includes adult and geriatric. Emergency Life Support Training per organizational protocols. Float Nurse
- The Float nurse will demonstrate the above functions and will also exhibit competence in the Med Surg/Pediatric, ICU, Rehab, ER, and outpatient surgery areas. The patient population served by this position includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Emergency Life Support Training per organizational protocols. Emergency Department
- The ED nurse will demonstrate the above functions. The patient population served by this position includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Emergency Life Support Training per organizational protocols. Family Birth Center
- The FBC nurse will demonstrate the above functions. Assists in orientation of new employees to the unit. Serves as OR scrub and circulator. The patient population served by this position includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Emergency Life Support Training per organizational protocols. Surgical Services
- The outpatient/surgical nurse will demonstrate the above functions and will also exhibit competence with surgery and outpatient specific equipment: endoscopic equipment, laparoscopic equipment, and competence in laser safety.
Responsibilities include:
clinical assessments, and after hours and weekend call. The patient population includes pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Emergency Life Support Training per organizational protocols. Inpatient Geropsych- The Inpatient Geropsych nurse will demonstrate the above functions and provide nursing care through physical and mental assessments, laboratory testing, plans of care and therapeutic treatments, as well as direct and indirect patient care services that meet the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of patient care.
Patient population to be served:
Adult to Geriatric. Preferred- 1 year experience in a behavioral healthcare setting. De-escalation training will be provided during orientation or within 6 months of hire date, unless class availability dictates a longer time period. Ability to work in emotionally charged situations. Emergency Life Support Training per organizational protocols. Skilled Nursing & Inpatient Rehab
- The skilled nursing & rehabilitation RN will demonstrate the above functions, serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team and is responsible for goal setting and carryover of the established team goals to achieve patients' highest level of function.
- Performs routine/emergency echocardiograms and stress echocardiograms.
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from an accredited Nursing Program required. Continuing education requirements as dictated by the Virginia Board of Nursing. Maintains certifications as required by the individual specific department. Must be able to complete job related competencies as deemed necessary to the performance of the RN role in the nursing department of employment.Licenses and Certifications:
Valid and active RN licensure from appropriate stateAHA BLS, ACLS, PALS NRP
