Department Cardiovascular Diag Ctr-206176 Worker Sub Type Regular Work Shift Pay Grade 137 Job Description The Supervisor, Non-Invasive Cardiac Imaging provides day-to-day operational and clinical oversight for a multi-modality imaging service line, including nuclear cardiology (stress testing), non-invasive vascular testing, and assigned nursing services. This role ensures safe, high-quality, and efficient patient care; supports physician/providers; maintains regulatory compliance; oversees staff performance and development; and drives continuous improvement in throughput, patient experience, and clinical outcomes. This position May require early/late shifts, weekend coverage, and on-call responsibilities based on operational needs. Responsibilities and Duties Leadership and Operations Provides daily supervision of non-invasive cardiac imaging operations across nuclear stress testing, vascular testing, and nursing support, ensuring appropriate coverage and patient flow. Coordinates scheduling, staffing plans, and workload distribution to meet service demand, access, and turnaround-time goals. Creates and maintains standard work, protocols, and department procedures in collaboration with medical directors, providers, and multidisciplinary partners. Leads staff huddles, communicates operational priorities, and escalates risks or barriers to leadership. Manages supplies and equipment readiness; coordinates service calls and preventative maintenance; supports capital planning and justification. Supports budget stewardship through staffing efficiency, inventory controls, and reduction of waste/rework. Clinical Oversight, Quality, and Patient Safety Ensures imaging and testing services are delivered in accordance with evidence-based practice, departmental protocols, and scope-of-practice requirements. Monitors quality indicators (e.g., patient identification, documentation completeness, image quality, exam appropriateness, contrast/radiopharmaceutical handling, and report workflow) and implements corrective actions as needed. Oversees safety practices including emergency preparedness, crash cart readiness, medication and contrast/radiopharmaceutical safety, and adverse event reporting. Ensures staff competency in
ACLS/BLS
expectations per role and maintains readiness for rapid response during stress testing. Partners with Quality/Risk/Compliance teams to investigate incidents, perform root-cause analyses, and implement improvement plans. Nuclear Cardiology / Stress Testing Oversight Oversees nuclear stress testing workflows (exercise and pharmacologic) including patient screening, informed preparation instructions, IV access support as applicable, monitoring, and post-test recovery processes. Ensures compliance with radiation safety standards, ALARA principles, radiopharmaceutical ordering/handling, storage, administration documentation, and disposal requirements per policy. Coordinates protocol updates (e.g., camera protocols, attenuation correction, gating, stress agent selection) with the nuclear medicine/cardiology medical director and physics/radiation safety resources as applicable. Supports staff competency and quality control for equipment (e.g., daily/weekly QC) and image acquisition/reconstruction standards. Non-Invasive Vascular Testing Oversight Oversees vascular testing services (e.g., ABI/PVR, carotid duplex, venous duplex, arterial duplex, and other studies offered by the department) in alignment with medical director guidance and lab accreditation standards as applicable. Ensures appropriate patient preparation, study completeness, accurate measurements, and documentation to support interpretation and clinical decision-making. Coordinates equipment quality assurance, probe care, and optimization of exam protocols to maintain consistent diagnostic quality. Nursing Oversight Provides supervisory oversight for assigned nursing staff supporting stress testing and non-invasive procedures, including pre-procedure assessment, medication reconciliation, patient education, IV starts, monitoring, and recovery. Ensures nursing practice aligns with organizational policies, state board of nursing requirements, and clinical standards for moderate-risk diagnostic testing environments. Supports medication management processes (e.g., storage, labeling, checks, controlled access as applicable), and ensures accurate documentation in the medical record. Facilitates interdisciplinary coordination with cardiologists, advanced practice providers, anesthesia/sedation resources (if applicable), emergency response teams, and referring offices. Staff Management and Development Recruits, trains, schedules, coaches, and evaluates staff; completes performance reviews and manages corrective action processes per HR policy. Ensures orientation, annual competencies, and ongoing education are completed and documented for all roles. Promotes a culture of teamwork, service excellence, accountability, and psychological safety. Leads or supports department meetings, skills labs, and cross-training to maintain coverage and resiliency. Regulatory Compliance and Accreditation Support Maintains compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and organizational policies (e.g., radiation safety, infection prevention, patient privacy, documentation standards). Prepares for and supports inspections, audits, and accreditation activities (e.g., laboratory accreditation and payer requirements as applicable), including policy maintenance, staff education, and corrective action plans. Ensures required licensure/certification records, QC logs, training records, and competencies are current and audit-ready. Education Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) is required. Experience Minimum 3-5 years of progressive clinical experience in non-invasive cardiology imaging and/or vascular testing required. Prior lead/supervisory experience preferred. Certification & Licensure Registered Nurse licensure is required.
Registered Nurse must hold either:
A current multistate (compact) RN license issued by the nurse's state of residency (RNs have 60 days after relocating to a new state to apply for a multistate (compact) RN license in their new state of residency); or A current single‑state RN license issued by Virginia and/or West Virginia, as applicable based on the location(s) where the Registered Nurse will be providing services. BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved is required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is required prior to the completion of orientation. Radiation safety training and/or dosimetry participation as required by organizational policy for roles supporting nuclear imaging. Qualifications Demonstrated knowledge of stress testing operations, patient monitoring, quality assurance, scheduling/workflow management, and staff coaching. Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
